Lykos trembled at her normally serene voice, which now carried a hint of irritation.

“How do you know what these things do, and why Andreas tried to give you his apple when he only had one?” Arche’s heavy gaze fell upon him.

Lykos averted his eyes, struggling for words. Looking toward the bed felt impossible now; the face he loved so dearly frightened him.

“He told me just a little while ago,” he admitted.

“And what about Andreas?”

“Well, I…” Lykos hesitated.

“A new body… a body with divine powers,” Arche picked up one of the apples from the sheet beside her. “You did that, didn’t you? You gave an apple to Calli to use. That’s why she’s not just better—her leg that wouldn’t heal has healed.”

“I… yes. I gave it to her.”

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner? Were you afraid I’d be against it and chastise you?”

“…You wouldn’t have been?”
