Chapter Thirty-Nine: Feasting On Your Forbidden Desires

Avery’s POV

“Oh, Avery.”

Piper groans.

I can picture her shaking her head at my statement.

“I thought you were in on it.” She speaks up again.

“In on the fact that he loves me, and not just using me.”

“You know him loving you is my assumption and yours, it's not fact.” She says bluntly.

I press my lips in a firm line, feeling more stupid than ever. How was I so gullible to believe that my fantasies were real?

“You've hurt so much for this guy, I think you should let go.”

“But you said it's a beautiful thing,” I argue.

“Yeah, I did.” She doesn't debunk the words. “And that's before all of this, plus, I never expect you to confront him.”

I just bat my lids, words eluding me.

“Avery, you're not a child. Before your ex, you've had a couple… What's going on with you?”

She exhales heavily, her breathing sound audible enough.

“I just… I don't know.”

I shrug, letting go of my words.
