Avery’s POV
“Piper…” I breathe heavily. “He called…”
“Who called?”
She asks, sensing my mood swings, even though she isn't seeing me in person.
“Avery, are you okay?”
Swallowing thick lumps of saliva, I close my eyes, hoping against hope that it's not true.
“Orion.”
“What?”
She gasps.
I can feel her batting her lids nonstop and leaving her jaws on the hard floor.
“Isn't he supposed to be dead?!”
“I don't know… I…” I exhale loudly. “I'm as confused as you can imagine.”
“His friend told me that he got buried.”
“Maybe he lied. Orion can't resurrect, or can he now?”
“And we confirmed him dead, Avery.” She argues, safely lodged in denial. “Are you sure it's his voice you heard?”
I sigh, raking my hand through my hair.
“Yeah,” I nod fervently. “He asked me to return home.”
“What?” She gaps again. “Did he say that?”
“Yeah,” I puff. “I'm guessing it's just a cryptic message.”
