Chapter Fifty-Seven:  Testing The Waters

Avery’s POV

“What if I… hurt you?”

The words are too heavy for my small lips, as I stutter nonstop.

With scrutiny, I watch Thane’s look go from happy to surprised, but not sad… Not yet.

“Avery?”

Getting the message in slow succession, he sits up in bed, in order to hold my gaze fully.

I just returned from Piper’s house, still in my full rage. In addition, I'm as confused as heck, and instead of ducking my head to cry, I come straight to his room to bluff.

One way or another, the storm is surely coming, and it will be too heavy for me to withstand. It's best I get him prepared for what's coming, knowing how bad it will break him.

“What are you saying?”

He demands my full attention, now at the edge of his bed.

“What if I betray you…”

Again, I continue with my vague revelation, but my words are too scary to overlook.

“... Will you forgive me?”

Not saying a word, he stands up from bed and approaches me.
