Avery’s POV
“You’re making me scared.”
Piper asks for what can pass for the hundredth time. She is just in her world of impatiently, just as I am in mine of regret, self-pity, and doom.
“Can you just out with it already?”
She puffs, looking like she is ready to knock it out of me if I keep on the annoying attitude.
“He has Thane’s too.”
My words come out mangled like I'm in a state of shock.
Frankly, I am. And this may be the longest shock of the century, because I may never recover from it.
“Uh… Hold on!”
Her voice is high-pitched like everything got to her in a rush.
That's the nasty thing about Orion. Whenever he walks through the door with another demand, he always gets his victims speechless.
Yielding to her reflex, she leaves her seat as though it burns her now, and settles right beside me.
I'm just sitting, facing ahead, with my body leaning against the backrest of the couch.
She throws her arm around me, trying to get my full attention.
