Signing the contract.

Charles scoffed as he nervously turned around before proceeding to make his way out of the CEO's office.

Charles headed straight for the storeroom, where he kept the vacuum cleaner before proceeding to make his way home.

As darkness fell, Charles' mind was still alive as he pondered about the possibilities and implications of his decision.

Lying awake in bed, the events between him and Augustine spun around in his head like a relentless carousel.

The next morning, Charles rose from the bed even before his alarm clock could start ringing.

Just like any other day, Charles took a warm bath before emerging out of the bathroom as he swiftly opened his wardrobe.

He pulled out a pair of blue flower trousers and a white shirt and with a swift motion, he quickly wore the clothes.

Following that, he heads over to his bedside table where he grabs his medicated eyeglasses before taking in a deep breath.

'I wish myself a success.' He mumbled within himself before proceeding to grab his backpack.

Swiftly, Charles wore his bag pack and with one final glance at his small apartment, he decided to take in another deep breath before proceeding to step out.

With renewed determination, Charles quickened his steps, his pace steady as he made his way towards Gyapm Corporation.

The street bustled with life, a throng of people moving like a tidal wave towards their various destinations, each lost in their own world of tasks and errands.

And soon, Charles arrived at Gyapm Corporation.

Without thinking twice, he headed straight to the CEO's office, before knocking on the door.

"Come in."

Charles's eyes immediately lit up in surprise because the thought of receiving a reply had not even crossed his mind. He also didn't expect that the CEO had already arrived in his office.

Taking in a deep breath, Charles slowly opened the door as he stepped inside Augustine Wales's office.

At the office chair was Augustine who sat behind the gleaming expanse of his office desk, his gaze intently fixed on the screen of his laptop, his posture a perfect mirror of the elegance and power that surrounded him.

The CEO's attention was unwavering, his focus unwavering, as if the rest of the world had faded away, leaving only him and his digital domain."

Charles adjusted his eyeglasses as he gulped down his saliva while closing the distance between himself and Augustine.

"Good morning," Charles warmly greeted.

Augustine replied with a nod while exhaling loudly.

'Pfft!'

Augustine's voice was crisp and to the point, his gaze still fixed on the laptop as he instructed Charles. "The contract is in the file on the desk. Sign it and provide your contact information."

The CEO's words were a directive, leaving no room for negotiation or discussion.

Charles swiftly nodded, grabbing the file which was above the office table.

As he opened it, his gaze fell on the contract.

'Well, since Augustine has informed me about what the contract entails, then there's no need for me to read it.' Charles thought to himself as he signed the contract.

Breaking the silence that had settled over the office, Charles spoke up, his voice betraying a hint of hesitation. "CEO Augustine," Charles began, "May I ask where you would like me to write my contact information?"

Charles allowed his gaze to remain focused on the CEO and then he noticed that Augustine was in the clothes he wore the previous day. "Did you sleep here?" Charles blurted out.

He had planned on inwardly questioning himself but he had no idea when the words spilled out of his mouth.

Augustine who was stunned to hear the question of Charles decided to avert his gaze from his laptop so that he could take a proper look at Charles. "Sweetheart," Augustine purred with his seductive voice. "Are you worried about me?" He went on to utter with a smirk attached to his lips.

'Pfft!'

Charles scoffed, rolling his eyes at the ridiculous words of Augustine. "No," he spat with a flat tone before grabbing a piece of paper from the office table as he jot down his phone number. "By the way, where's the upfront payment you promise me?"

Charles knew that the only way to escape the awkward moment was by changing the subject.

With a silent breath, Augustine rose from his seat, his movements elegant and composed despite the underlying tension in the room.

He placed his index finger on the biometric scanner of the desk drawer, the mechanism unlocking with a soft click.

Reaching into the drawer, he retrieved a thick stack of dollar bills, placing them on the desk before Charles like an offering.

Charles gulped, averting his gaze from the money so that he won't seem thirty for it.

"This is ten thousand dollars," Augustine stated, his eyes fixed on Charles' face. "You are expected to come over to my house tonight, and I'll send you the address before the sun goes down."

The tone of Augustine was flat and it shows that he simply meant business.

Charles opened his backpack, before putting the dollars bills inside his bag.

"Umm… thanks a lot." He stuttered, not certain about what to say.

Augustine replied with a brief nod and with that, Charles took the initiative to step out of the office.

'Well, I already resigned from working here so it's best I leave the premises as soon as possible.' Charles thought to himself.

He made his way towards the elevator and soon, he arrived at the lobby of the company.

Without having a second thought, Charles stepped out of the company building and just as he was a few blocks away, he spread his hands wide like wings while screaming.

Charles' eyes lit up with a feral gleam, a grin spreading across his face like a wildfire. '

"Unbelievable!" he cried, his voice trembling with excitement. "I never imagined I'd see so much money in my lifetime." He added.

Passer-by glared at him with a cold gaze but Charles didn't care a bit.

He gulped down his saliva, and instantly an idea popped into his head.

'I need to buy a diamond ring for Anna.' Charles mused to himself.

Taking in a long deep breath, he firmly hugged his backpack before sprinting towards the next jewellery shop.

It took a while but eventually, Charles arrived at one of the biggest jewellery shops in the entire country H.

"Welcome in sir." A young lady who stood at the entrance door of the jewellery shop stated while opening the door for Charles.

"Tha… thanks." He nervously replied, his smile broad and beautiful as he stepped inside the building.

And then…

The first thing that his eyes landed on immediately made his entire world to become frozen in time.
