After sending the text message, Charles intensely glares at his phone screen, hoping to at least get a reply or perhaps a laughing emoji.

To his dismay, he was left on read.

Charles frowned, gripping his phone tighter as he stared at the screen, willing it to light up with a response.

His heart pounded slightly—had he said too much? Was Augustine too busy to reply, or… was he simply ignoring him?

'No… he wouldn't do that,' Charles reassured himself, but the nagging doubt refused to fade.

Different questions stir within Charles as he patiently waits for a reply but after five minutes of waiting, Charles decides to head over to a grocery store.

With a sigh, he locked his phone and shoved it back into his pocket, trying to shake off the unsettling feeling creeping into his chest.

Charles purchased everything he needed for the night at the grocery store before stepping onto the sidewalk and hailing a cab back to Augustine's mansion.
