Chapter 81 Divorce and Revelations
"Qin Wanshu, is she the reason you insisted on divorce?" Han Shibin's face was gloomy, his teeth clenched as he asked.
"Perhaps. But every cause has its effect. The seeds you sowed back then have led to the current outcome. You should ask yourself first," Qin Wanshu replied indifferently. If it weren't for Han Shibin, she would never have met Zuo Qinghuan.
"What do you mean?" Han Shibin wasn't entirely oblivious to Qin Wanshu's implication, but he refused to acknowledge it.
"If it weren't for your infidelity, how would I have met Zuo Qinghuan?" Now that things had come to this, there was no need to hide anything. Qin Wanshu actually felt somewhat relieved.
"So, you're retaliating?" Han Shibin asked. Although he was at fault, Qin Wanshu had gone too far. A man's emotions and physical desires could be separated. He didn't admit to emotional betrayal; he had always placed Qin Wanshu in the most important position.
"Perhaps that was the case at first, but later, the pretense turned real. Life is always full of dramatic outcomes," Qin Wanshu said lightly, skirting the main issue. Since Han Shibin believed she was retaliating, she might as well let him think so. Whether she had initiated things with Zuo Qinghuan or Zuo Qinghuan had initiated things with her, the blame was different. Qin Wanshu didn't want Han Shibin to direct his anger at Zuo Qinghuan.
"Hah, you talk about cause and effect. If it weren't for your frigidity, always unwilling to let me touch you in bed, why would I seek other women?" Han Shibin retorted. He didn't think the problem lay with him.
"So, since we can't reconcile this conflict, divorce is the best option. You're free to find other women to satisfy your needs. I have no objections," Qin Wanshu said, feeling that there was no point in dwelling on this issue any longer.
"If you were truly frigid, I could accept it. But you're not. You seemed to enjoy yourself with Zuo Qinghuan, didn't you? Acting all pure and chaste, but in the end, you're just a slut..." In his rage, Han Shibin spat out every venomous word he could think of. The refined demeanor of an upper-class gentleman was nowhere to be seen.
Qin Wanshu wasn't angered by Han Shibin's harsh words. Instead, she looked at him with a cold smile. The man she had carefully chosen turned out to be like this what a cruel irony. Fortunately, she hadn't spent a lifetime with him before realizing it; that would have been truly tragic.
Seeing Qin Wanshu's distant smile, Han Shibin's torrent of venomous words abruptly stopped. Sometimes, a smile could cut deeper than words. Han Shibin wished Qin Wanshu would explain, make excuses, or even lie anything to show she still cared a little. But her silent, cold smile frightened him. He realized there was nothing he could do to keep her.
"Han Shibin, to be honest, I'm disappointed in you. But it doesn't matter. What you think of me or what I think of you is irrelevant now. We have no relationship anymore, so please leave, and don't forget to leave the key card," Qin Wanshu said politely, but the more courteous her tone, the colder it felt. She hadn't asked for the key card earlier because there was still some lingering sentiment. She didn't want to seem too harsh right after signing the agreement. But now, she didn't want Han Shibin intruding on her private life anymore.
"Aren't you afraid your grandfather will find out you're fooling around with a woman?" Han Shibin threatened.
"Don't worry about that. I'll explain it to my grandfather when the time comes. Besides, it was you who made me lose faith in men. You've been with more than just Zuo Qinghuan. And remember, family is family, while outsiders will always remain outsiders," Qin Wanshu said. She doubted Han Shibin would dare to go to her grandfather. If he did, she wouldn't hesitate to shift the blame onto him, saying his promiscuity had made her lose faith in men. Her grandfather would likely deal with Han Shibin first before addressing any internal issues. Han Shibin should understand this dynamic. Qin Wanshu wasn't as kind-hearted as she seemed; she believed in not provoking others but also not letting herself be bullied.
Han Shibin looked defeated. He was filled with resentment but had no way to retaliate against Qin Wanshu and Zuo Qinghuan. His anger had nowhere to go.
"Please leave, and don't forget the key card," Qin Wanshu reminded him again politely.
Han Shibin threw the key card down with a dark expression and stormed out of the room. When he passed Zuo Qinghuan at the door, he glared at her with a venomous look that sent a chill down her spine.
"Seeing Han Shibin like that, I'm a bit worried," Zuo Qinghuan said anxiously to Qin Wanshu.
"He's just upset right now. He'll calm down in a few days. If he makes too much of a scene, he won't benefit either. He's not stupid; he understands the stakes. Besides, he's the one at fault. He won't keep pushing," Qin Wanshu reassured her. She had already considered the worst possible outcome when she decided to confront Han Shibin.
"I'm sorry for causing so much trouble. If I hadn't been so impulsive, none of this would have happened," Zuo Qinghuan said with guilt.
"I don't like it when you're so formal with me. I want you to rely on me completely. For a relationship to last, it's not just about passion and love it's also about responsibility. When I chose to be with you, I hoped you would be the one to grow old with me. Taking care of you is my responsibility," Qin Wanshu said seriously, gently patting Zuo Qinghuan's head. Zuo Qinghuan looked like a student who had made a mistake, being overly cautious, which felt awkward. Qin Wanshu didn't think this was Zuo Qinghuan's fault; she could have stopped it too, but she had chosen to indulge. In a way, it was for the best. Now they wouldn't have to constantly avoid Han Shibin, as if they were the ones in the wrong. Although she wasn't entirely blameless, she and Han Shibin were even.
"Qin Wanshu, how much good karma did I accumulate in my past life to meet you in this one?" Zuo Qinghuan's eyes reddened as she spoke. She would also treat Qin Wanshu well, and only Qin Wanshu.
"Silly, maybe I owed you in my past life, and now I'm repaying the debt," Qin Wanshu joked. If Zuo Qinghuan had done so many good deeds, her first twenty years wouldn't have been so hard.
"Haha, maybe," Zuo Qinghuan suppressed the lump in her throat and smiled. She knew she looked much better when she smiled than when she cried.
"There's a big supermarket nearby. Let's go buy some groceries and cook dinner together. I'm really looking forward to Chef Zuo's home-cooked dishes," Qin Wanshu changed the subject. She found that she quite liked this kind of domestic life it was warm and filled with simple happiness.
"Sure, let's go now," Zuo Qinghuan said, her mood lifting after the dark cloud brought by Han Shibin's appearance. She was looking forward to the first dinner after Qin Wanshu's divorce a day worth commemorating.
Qin Wanshu didn't like driving for short distances; she preferred walking, though such opportunities were rare.
The road from the supermarket to the villa wasn't crowded, and the wide street felt spacious.
"How about we run back?" Qin Wanshu suddenly suggested with enthusiasm.
"Run?" Zuo Qinghuan was surprised. She hadn't exercised since she stopped dancing.
"Yes, let's race and see who gets there first," Qin Wanshu said, clearly excited by the idea.
"Alright," Zuo Qinghuan agreed. She was six years younger than Qin Wanshu; there was no way she could lose.
But Zuo Qinghuan quickly realized she couldn't catch up to Qin Wanshu. She hadn't expected Qin Wanshu to have such good stamina. Qin Wanshu always claimed to be tired after a little exercise in bed clearly, that was a lie.
Qin Wanshu slowed down, allowing Zuo Qinghuan to catch up, panting heavily.
"Just a few minutes, and you're already this tired," Qin Wanshu teased, stopping to catch her breath. For someone so young, Zuo Qinghuan's lack of stamina was surprising.
"It's at least a kilometer. Of course, I'm tired," Zuo Qinghuan said, reaching out to hold Qin Wanshu's hand. She preferred walking hand in hand it was much more romantic than running.
"You need to run more often," Qin Wanshu said, brushing aside Zuo Qinghuan's disheveled bangs. In the soft, golden light of the evening sun, Zuo Qinghuan's beauty seemed almost unreal, leaving Qin Wanshu momentarily entranced. At this moment, Zuo Qinghuan was breathtakingly stunning in Qin Wanshu's eyes.
Neither of them noticed the car parked not far away, nor the man inside with a dark expression.
Han Shibin had left Qin Wanshu's villa but hadn't gone far. He had been sitting in his car, stewing over recent events. The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. He felt like he had been played by these two women. The timing of Zuo Qinghuan's recent appearances was too suspicious. Ever since he returned from his business trip, Zuo Qinghuan had been acting strangely, and Qin Wanshu's coldness had led him to sign the divorce papers. The intimate images that had stabbed at his nerves, and now the sight of the two women laughing and acting affectionately in front of him, pushed his anger and jealousy to the breaking point. His hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, veins bulging. These two damn bitches he wouldn't let them live happily. Almost involuntarily, Han Shibin stepped on the clutch, revved the engine, and the car sped forward.
Zuo Qinghuan's sharp eyes caught sight of the car speeding toward them. The imminent danger triggered her instincts, and she pushed Qin Wanshu away with all her strength. But her own body was struck and sent flying.
