Chapter 96 Qin Wanshu's Surprising Statement

Zuo Qinghuan opened the door to find Shi Yunyang and Qin Teng standing outside. To be honest, she wasn't particularly thrilled to see this handsome man and beautiful woman. One was Qin Wanshu's best friend, and the other was Qin Wanshu's younger brother. They hadn't truly accepted her, after all. Nevertheless, Zuo Qinghuan quickly plastered on what she hoped was her most welcoming smile.

As soon as they stepped inside, the once-spacious single apartment suddenly felt much more cramped. It was clear that Shi Yunyang and Qin Teng weren't impressed with the environment either. For the esteemed eldest daughter of the Qin family to be living in such a place was, in their eyes, a disgrace. However, they were smart enough to only show their dissatisfaction to Zuo Qinghuan, never to Qin Wanshu.

The way they looked at her always made Zuo Qinghuan feel inadequate, a feeling she loathed. Their disapproval wasn't because she and Qin Wanshu were both women, but because she simply wasn't good enough. How could she possibly compare to them when they were on such different starting levels? While the comparison might have been unfair, the simple truth was, she wasn't up to par.

"What are you two doing here?" Qin Wanshu asked. In truth, she hadn't expected Shi Yunyang and Qin Teng to willingly come to this place.

"You and Yan Ruozhe both withdrew from the Yun Project, a joint venture of the three major conglomerates. I've been completely swamped with work, and here you are, all cozy in this little nest reading books. Your life seems so leisurely," Shi Yunyang complained.

With such a massive project suddenly losing two key project managers, especially someone as efficient and hardworking as Yan Ruozhe, the entire burden had fallen on Shi Yunyang. Naturally, someone who cherished their downtime as much as she did couldn't stand being busy for even a moment. Her dissatisfaction was hardly surprising.

"Weren't you always the one who hated Yan Ruozhe the most? Now that she's left with nothing, isn't that what you wanted?" Qin Wanshu said casually, as if it were none of her concern. Yan Ruozhe was a talented individual, and her departure was a significant loss for the Qian family, as well as for the project.

"Forget about Yan Ruozhe. What surprises me is you. You've actually gone all out for love, abandoning everything to hole up here. I don't believe for a second that you can stay here forever." Shi Yunyang couldn't imagine that Qin Wanshu, a powerful woman, would remain stuck in such a limited situation.

"If I think it's worth it, then it is," Qin Wanshu replied calmly. Shi Yunyang didn't understand the game she was playing with her grandfather. Being trapped and unable to use her abilities was frustrating for both of them, but it was a matter of who would give in first. If Shi Yunyang and Qin Teng conveyed to her grandfather that she truly didn't care about anything anymore, all for Zuo Qinghuan's sake, he would become more anxious, increasing her chances of winning.

Shi Yunyang felt deeply uneasy. How could someone like Zuo Qinghuan make Qin Wanshu give up her entire world? She didn't believe Qin Wanshu was the type to prioritize love above all else, but she wasn't entirely sure. After all, the way Qin Wanshu looked at Zuo Qinghuan was undeniably tender. She disliked this version of Qin Wanshu – the powerful Qin Wanshu who now did nothing but read books in this tiny apartment.

"A love saint!" Shi Yunyang scoffed. Since childhood, she had always looked down on most people, but this was the first time she had ever felt this way toward Qin Wanshu.

Qin Wanshu smiled faintly. She wasn't noble enough to be called a love saint, but she would certainly cherish the person she loved.

"Sister, if Grandpa is serious, are you really planning to live like this for the rest of your life?" Qin Teng asked.

Qin Wanshu had always believed that her grandfather would eventually compromise. She didn't think her judgment was wrong, but if he truly didn't give in, would she still make the same choice? Qin Wanshu hesitated. Given her love and responsibility toward Zuo Qinghuan, she probably would still choose Zuo Qinghuan. But if Qin Wanshu was no longer the Qin Wanshu everyone knew, what would happen? While enjoying the simple happiness Zuo Qinghuan provided, would she still feel regret and a sense of loss? In truth, Qin Wanshu wasn't as selfless as she liked to think. She was greedy and wanted it all.

"If I can't use the abilities I inherited from the Qin family, I can learn new ones. There might be pain and loss, but people are irreplaceable," Qin Wanshu replied after a brief silence.

"Lovers are replaceable; family is not." The likelihood of replacing a lover was much higher than replacing family. Loving someone for a lifetime was an ideal, and Qin Teng felt that most people couldn't guarantee they wouldn't fall in love with someone else in the future. But the bonds of blood were unbreakable.

"I will make my lover my family. And precisely because my family is irreplaceable, they will eventually accept my choice," Qin Wanshu said with her usual composure.

"In that case, why don't you just adopt her as your sister? I think Grandpa would like that arrangement," Qin Teng asked with a wry smile.

"I already have plenty of sisters. I don't need another one. A sister and a lover are not the same thing. After all, a sister can't exactly solve my issues with sexual indifference, can she? What I want is a relationship that lies somewhere between love and family," Qin Wanshu retorted, raising an eyebrow. Her words shocked everyone in the room, including Zuo Qinghuan.

If Qin Teng or Shi Yunyang had said something like this, it wouldn't have been surprising at all. But coming from Qin Wanshu, it was like a bomb going off. If they could say such things, then so could she. Qin Teng and Shi Yunyang suddenly realized that they had always treated Qin Wanshu as someone without desires, placing her on a pedestal and forgetting that she was just a woman. Was it because Zuo Qinghuan treated Qin Wanshu like an ordinary woman that she had won her over?

"Qin Wanshu, why don't you try me? Maybe I can cure your sexual indifference too." If that were the case, things would be much simpler. Shi Yunyang thought she was a far better candidate than Zuo Qinghuan – better in looks, figure, and even in bed. After all, why let good things go to outsiders?

"Shi Yunyang, you only love yourself, so you wouldn't understand. You'll only have the right to speak once you do." Shi Yunyang was always stingy with her emotions, which only made her more selfish and self-centered.

Qin Teng remained silent. Perhaps he had never truly understood his sister. He had always assumed what she should be like without ever knowing what she truly wanted.

Zuo Qinghuan didn't say a word, listening intently to their conversation. She knew Qin Wanshu had the ability to convince anyone, given enough time. Such an exceptional woman… Zuo Qinghuan suddenly felt a pang of insecurity. A powerful woman couldn't stay in a limited situation forever. Could her small world really hold Qin Wanshu?
