"Things are going to change," Seraphina murmured, her deep emerald eyes thoughtful. She sat with a goblet of wine in hand, swirling the crimson liquid absently.
Althea, reclining elegantly on the velvet sofa, nodded. "Yes. Several prominent noble families have lost their positions. The gaps they leave behind will be filled by new blood."
Elara, resting her chin on her palm, watched them both with keen interest. "The real question is—who benefits the most from this?"
Althea exhaled, setting her drink down. "The answer is obvious. Those who have stood by Vela's side from the beginning. The King has already begun relying on her more than ever. I wouldn't be surprised if, after this, she takes an even more prominent role in governance."
Seraphina let out a small scoff. "So she'll be running the kingdom in all but name? Isn't that supposed to be the Crown Prince's role?"
