As the sun dipped toward the horizon, the royal procession made its journey back to the palace.

Jacob sat beside Eleanor, gazing at her. He had expected her to look exhausted after such a long day, but instead, she seemed radiant, alive—as if the very energy of her people had fueled her spirit.

"You did well," she murmured, glancing at him with amusement.

"I didn't do anything," Jacob muttered. "You're the one they were cheering for."

Eleanor chuckled, reaching over to place a hand over his. "You underestimate yourself."

The royal palace was ablaze with light when they arrived. Servants rushed about, putting the final touches on the grand hall, where a lavish banquet awaited the gathered nobility of Valtoris.

As Jacob stepped out of the carriage, Eleanor turned to him expectantly.
