A Web of Betrayal
Prince Cheng sat in his private chambers, a cold smile playing on his lips as he sipped from a porcelain cup. His thoughts were a whirl of chaotic emotions, still buzzing from the events with his brother, Prince Feng. His heart pounded with a singular, all-consuming idea: Meng Qingshan belongs to me.His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of General Liu's boots echoing down the corridor. Cheng's smile faltered but remained as he turned to greet the general, his posture one of calm authority.Liu strode into the room with a grim determination, his face shadowed by the coming war. "Your Highness," Liu began, his voice low but clear. "The Wutai Sect is preparing for battle. The demonic sect will pay for their crimes. They've brought this upon themselves with their vile ways. And I will personally see that the so-called Blood Demon is eradicated."Prince Cheng's eyes flashed with interest at the mention of Meng. His fingers tightened around his cup, though his smile didn't waver. "The Blood Demon," he said softly. "You mean Meng Qingshan?"Liu nodded sharply, his face set in determination. "Yes. The one who caused so much destruction. His power is dangerous, and his very existence is a threat to our kingdom. Rest assured, Your Highness, I will kill him myself." Liu's eyes gleamed with a sense of duty and vengeance, unaware of the storm brewing beneath Cheng's composed exterior. For a brief moment, Cheng felt the weight of his plan resting heavily on his chest. Liu's intention to kill Meng wasn't something he could allow. Not now, not when Meng was the key to his future. But he couldn't show his hand too soon.Cheng feigned contemplation, swirling the tea in his cup. "And what if this Meng Qingshan... were not the demon we believe him to be?"Liu frowned, his posture stiffening. "Your Highness, with all due respect, the evidence against him and his sect is undeniable. They are responsible for Prince Feng's illness. The demonic sect must be wiped out, and Meng Qingshan must fall with them."The mention of Feng made Cheng's smile falter briefly. His heart twisted at the memory of his brother's last confession of love for Chen Ming. It was the very thought that had pushed Cheng to the brink, into darkness. If Feng hadn't said those words, perhaps he wouldn't have done what he did.Perhaps.But Feng was gone now. And Meng was alive.Cheng's mind whirled with possibilities, his thoughts darker than ever. If Liu kills Meng, I'll never have him. He'll be lost to me just like my brother. I won't let that happen. Liu must die."Very well," Cheng said at last, standing up from his chair. He approached Liu, his smile carefully in place. "Do what you must on the battlefield. But keep me informed, General. I trust you understand the gravity of this situation."Liu bowed his head respectfully. "I will not fail you, Your Highness."As Liu turned to leave, Cheng's smile faded into a cold, calculating expression. His fingers twitched at the thought of a blade. The plan had already begun to take shape in his mind. If Liu intended to kill Meng, Cheng would be there—watching, waiting. And the moment Liu makes his move... I will strike. I'll make sure it's him who falls on the battlefield. As Liu left the room, Cheng let out a slow breath, his thoughts spiraling deeper into madness. The memory of Meng's face—the face he had seen during the destruction of that small sect—burned into his mind.Meng is mine. His heart quickened at the thought. The idea of Meng Qingshan surviving, coming under his control, had become his new obsession. But for that to happen, Liu had to be removed from the equation.Cheng's smile returned, darker than before, as he stared out the window into the distant sky.The next battle wouldn't just be against the demonic sect. It would be against anyone who stood in his way of having Meng Qingshan.
