Incoming Trouble for the High Kingdom of Riscone

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Riscone Kingdom's Palace stood as a beacon of grandeur and history, its majestic meeting room now hosting an urgent congregation. The room exuded an air of tension and determination, with King Danayus Riscone seated at the head of the table, alongside his daughter, Princess Tulia Riscone. They were joined by Queen Seraphina of Varfelt, still recovering from her harrowing ordeal, and representatives of the Cheery Black and Vast Star guilds, including Tobe, Miri, Yuka, and Max. Seated quietly in chains was the disgraced Naoto Yugaha, his head bowed in shame.
King Danayus broke the silence, his voice steady yet probing. "So... what has happened on your mission to Varfelt?"
Tobe leaned forward, his tone casual yet respectful. "We had a little detour and finished a brand-new dungeon."
The king raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really? A brand new dungeon, huh?"
Tobe nodded. "Yes, sir. It was called the 'Dungeon of the Wind King.'"
King Danayus let out a low whistle, his intrigue apparent. "Interesting news. It's not bad to have a bit of fun. Now, what else?"
Queen Seraphina, her voice soft but steady, spoke up. "King Danayus... this man over here"—she pointed a trembling finger at Naoto—"is the one to blame for the strangeness in Varfelt. He was once respected, but he suddenly retaliated. He raided the palace, killed everyone—even my husband—and enslaved me..." Her voice broke as tears spilled down her cheeks.
A servant stepped forward to comfort her, gently rubbing her back as the room fell into an uncomfortable silence. King Danayus exchanged a solemn look with her, his expression both empathetic and resolute. He turned to Miri. "And what of the Grey Veil occurrences?"
Miri explained, "Naoto killed the invading Grey Veil members but left one alive each time to retreat and report. This cycle repeated, drawing more of their forces to him to steadily grow his army."
King Danayus's gaze hardened as he looked at Naoto. "Murder, homicide, sexual assault, high treason, kingdom takeover... Young man, you will be held responsible. You'll be kept in the highest-security prison, under strict lockdown. If you try to escape, your restraints will tighten, and if you try again… we will execute you on sight. Do you understand?"
Naoto met the king's stern eyes, then glanced at the weeping Queen. His voice was heavy with understanding his own regret. "I... understand. My ego and pride consumed me... I'm... sorry... But I know it's not enough... I'll accept this as my repentance..."
The room fell silent in surprise as Naoto stood, turned to the Queen, and bowed deeply. "I'm.. sorry..." He then extended his arms toward a nearby guard, silently accepting his fate. The guard hesitated, glancing at the king, who gave a firm nod. With a metallic click, Naoto's wrists were cuffed, and two more guards escorted him out of the room.
The moment was sobering, but it was soon interrupted by a guard bursting into the room. "Your Majesty! A scout reports a large army advancing towards the kingdom. They will arrive in four days."
The room erupted into murmurs and gasps until King Danayus clapped his hands sharply, silencing everyone. "Who is leading the army?"
The guard's voice faltered. "The report says... it's Demon Lord Crockus."
A collective gasp filled the room. King Danayus's face turned grim. "Oh, by the heavens… Demon Lord Crockus."
Tobe's calm voice cut through the tension. "What's wrong, sir? What about Demon Lord Crockus?"
The king sighed heavily. "He is the third-strongest Demon Lord. The Supreme Golem. He has mastered all elemental and mana spells. And now he's coming here."
Chisa pressed further. "Do you know why he's attacking Riscone?"
King Danayus's tone grew serious. "None of this information is to be shared with the public. Understand?"
Everyone shared glances and nodded in agreement. The servant steadily escorted the Queen out of the room, and the rest of the guards who were present, all left the room. As the king cast a sacred binding vow spell, ensuring their silence.
With the room secure, he continued. "This kingdom harbors a secret that the Demon Lords have discovered: the legendary greatsword Alhikael, wielded by the First Chosen Hero, Ernest Zylback Riscone. Forged by the four greatest blacksmiths with the world's rarest ores and imbued with immense mana, it's said to be stronger than Excalybur itself. It split mountains into hundred pieces in a single swing, decimated demon settlements, and slew the Demon King rumored to surpass all Demon Lords combined."
The room was awestruck. Tobe asked, "How did the Demon Lords learn about this?"
King Danayus's expression darkened. "Gilman Hunt, once the apprentice to the First Chosen Hero, Ernest Zylback Riscone, betrayed his mentor out of jealousy and ambition. When Ernest refused to pass down the legendary greatsword Alhikael to him—suspecting Gilman's ulterior motives—Gilman's resentment boiled over. In his fury, Gilman challenged Ernest to a duel to the death.
Ernest accepted, and the two clashed in a catastrophic battle. Their skills were nearly evenly matched, with the duel shaking the very earth, but Ernest ultimately emerged victorious. Rather than kill his former apprentice, he chose mercy, banishing Gilman permanently from the kingdom.
Consumed by his defeat and thirst for power, Gilman turned to the forbidden knowledge of the Cursed Dark Arts. Over time, he crafted the infamous Cursed Weapon Series, artifacts imbued with devastating power, and transformed himself into the most formidable Demon Lord in history. To this day, Gilman lives on as the number one Demon Lord, commanding respect and fear. While many Demon Lords follow his whims and orders, others have splintered off to pursue their own agendas, spreading chaos across the lands. Most other Demon Lords follow his will, including Crockus. Now, Crockus marches here with his army, and we must stop him by any means necessary."
The king's eyes searched the room as he pleaded, "Will you help us defend the kingdom?"
The people present exchanged determined glances. Tobe, Miri, and Chisa answered in unison, "Of course."
Relief softened the king's features. "Thank you. The kingdom rests in your hands."
As they left the palace, the king addressed the kingdom through an orb, his voice echoing across the land. "Attention, citizens, adventurers, and knights! In four days, Demon Lord Crockus's army will reach our gates. We need all hands to defend our home. Your contributions will be rewarded. Let us stand strong together!"
Tobe, Miri, Jun, Yuka, and Max returned to the Cheery Black Guild. Elma greeted them warmly and listened intently as they recounted their mission. Jun officially joined the guild, welcomed as one of their own. With the war looming, they resolved to train harder, master new skills, and surpass their limits. The fate of Riscone depended on it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Everyone had dispersed, each seeking their own way to grow stronger in preparation for the looming challenges. Among them, Tobe (who changed his clothes to his spare Cream-White Sweater), accompanied by his loyal Snow Fairy friend, Flake, set his sights on the monster-infested forest near the kingdom. His goal was clear: sharpen his skills, level up, and push past his limits.

As they stood at the forest's edge, Flake fluttered around with excitement. "You sure about this, Tobe? That forest's got some pretty nasty customers."

Tobe smirked, adjusting his gauntlets. "Exactly why we're here. If I'm going to get stronger, I need real challenges, not sparring sessions."

Flake grinned, her icy aura flickering. "Alright, boss. Let's see what you've got."

The forest was alive with danger, its dense foliage masking the presence of predators. It didn't take long for Tobe to find his first challenge: a pack of snarling Razor Hounds. Their sleek bodies shimmered with a faint glow, and their claws scraped against the ground as they prepared to pounce. After killing a large couple of razor hounds, he then learned two new skills by leveling up, Shock Shoot and Iron Arm Impact, and he was willing to try them out.

Tobe cracked his knuckles. "Let's dance."

The Razor Hounds charged. With a sharp intake of breath, Tobe launched forward, his fist glowing with mana.

He casts an ethereal arm made of pure iron that copied his own arm's movement and action "Iron Arm Impact!" The punch connected with the lead hound, sending it crashing into a tree with a deafening crack. The other hounds hesitated but didn't retreat. Instead, they surrounded him, baring their fangs.

"Tobe! Behind you!" Flake's warning came just in time as another hound lunged from the shadows. Tobe spun, activating "Shock Shoot," releasing a burst of electric energy from his palms that stunned the creature mid-air.

"Too slow," Tobe muttered, smirking as he finished off the pack. "We're just getting started."

The battles grew fiercer as Tobe delved deeper into the forest. He faced towering Ironclad Ogres, their armored hides nearly impenetrable, and venom-spitting Thorn Vipers that tested his agility. With every encounter, his movements grew sharper, his spells more potent. Days passed in a blur of combat, sweat, and determination.

On the third day, Tobe's toughest challenge yet appeared: a pair of Thunderclap Golems. Their stone bodies crackled with electric energy, and their every step sent tremors through the earth.

"Flake, stay back. These guys are different," Tobe warned, his gaze narrowing.

Flake hesitated. "Don't get yourself killed, dummy."

The golems attacked in unison, their massive fists slamming down. Tobe barely dodged, rolling to the side and countering with "Explosion Impact," but the attack only chipped their outer shells.

"This isn't working," he muttered, dodging another blow. As he leapt between the trees, something clicked. His movements became fluid, faster than ever before. Instinct took over as he activated his newfound ability: Ricochet.

His body moved like a blur, rebounding off the terrain with increasing speed and force. Each impact built momentum until he was a whirlwind of motion, striking the golems from every angle. Finally, with a final ricocheting strike, he shattered their cores, their bodies collapsing into rubble.

Panting, Tobe collapsed to his knees, a victorious grin on his face. "Flake... I think we've leveled up a ton."

On the fourth day, after countless battles, Tobe's body surged with energy. A radiant aura enveloped him as he broke through to Level 100. New knowledge flooded his mind, and with it, an ominous spell revealed itself.

"Mana End Nuke..." he whispered, the name alone sending shivers through him. The power was overwhelming, and he knew it would probably be dangerous to cast.

Tobe returned to the kingdom with newfound strength and purpose. His first stop was the Guild House, where he found Max training in the courtyard. The sound of clashing steel echoed as Max practiced with a training dummy.

"Max," Tobe called, approaching. "I need the Wind King's Air Entirety Tome, the Wind Rock, and the Gale Stone."

Max paused, wiping sweat from his brow. "Sounds like you've got a plan. Alright, give me a minute."

He disappeared into the Guild House and returned with the items in hand. "Here. Just don't blow up the kingdom with whatever you're planning."

Tobe smirked as he ran. "No promises! Thanks, Max!"

The blacksmith's forge blazed with heat as Tobe presented the Wind Rock and Gale Stone. The blacksmith, a burly man with arms like tree trunks, examined the materials with a discerning eye.

"These are rare. Smelting them won't be cheap. Five gold coins," he stated.

Tobe nodded, handing over the payment. "Do it."

The blacksmith set to work, melting the ores into a single glowing bar. He then melted the glowing bar into pure liquid and with practical precision, he poured the enchanted liquid onto the Empty Tome.

"Now, add a drop of your blood and imbue it with mana," the blacksmith instructed.

Tobe bit his thumb and pressed it to the Tome, channeling his energy. The book glowed a brilliant green before ascending into the air. Light radiated from it as it transformed, the once-empty pages now filled with knowledge.

The blacksmith whistled in admiration. "It's done. You've got yourself a masterpiece."

Tobe thanked him and headed back to the forest's entrance to test the Tome.

Sitting under the forest's canopy, Tobe opened the Tome. As he read, he slowly felt some spells come to life within him as he tested them out.

"Gale Vacuum!" He casts a vortex of wind, pulling every living and non-living thing nearby into its center.

"Shredding Wind Bomb!" He gathers concentrated wind between his palms as a small compressed sphere of wind could be launched as the small sphere explodes with razor-sharp force upon impact.

"Tunneling Wind Dragon!" The user thrusts his arm forward as a serpentine gust tore through the forest, leaving devastation in its wake.

"Chasing Air Shower!" The user raises their arm and open palm up to the sky as a sphere made from the air around the user slowly grows and grows until it's huge, as then from the 'Air Sphere', dozens of wind projectiles rained and homed in on targets below, striking with utter precision.

Flake watched in awe. "You're really becoming a force of nature, huh?"

Tobe chuckled, closing the Tome. "This is just the beginning. Let's see how far we can go."

As the group parted ways, determined to grow stronger over the next four days, Miri stood resolute at the kingdom's gates. Oculis, her ever-loyal companion, floated beside her. The soft glow of its healing light shimmered faintly in the crisp morning air.

Miri tightened the strap on her armor, her steely gaze fixed on the horizon. "If I'm going to improve, I need to face tougher challenges. Besides," she added with a faint smile looking at Oculis, "I've got you watching my back."

With that, they set out, the path winding through dense woods until the shadows of Goblin Forest loomed before them. The eerie cries of goblins echoed in the distance, but Miri's grip on her sword remained steady.

Miri strode through the forest, her sword drawn. Bastion, her shield now merged with her weapon, shimmered with an otherworldly glow. It pulsed faintly, almost as if sharing her determination. "Let's test out some of your moves, Bastion!", "Yes, ma'am!" Bastion replied with the same determination.

The first wave came suddenly: a group of goblin warriors, armed with crude axes and shields.

"Here we go," Miri muttered, lowering into a combat stance. "Oculis, support me as needed!"

The goblins charged, their guttural cries filling the air. Miri dashed forward, her agility unmatched. Her blade shimmered as she unleashed a flurry of precise strikes, disarming the first goblin and sending it sprawling. The second goblin swung its axe, but Miri parried with ease, countering with a powerful thrust that pierced its defenses.

"Mana Blade Shoot!" she shouted, channeling mana into her sword. A concentrated blade of energy shot forward, cutting through 5 goblins at once. The blast illuminated the battlefield, scattering leaves and debris.

Oculis floated in front of her, its tendrils glowing and pointing towards Miri's left, trying to warn her.

She spun just in time to deflect an ambush, her sword ringing against the goblin's blade. With a swift maneuver, she brought her sword down, cleaving the goblin's weapon in half before finishing it off.

For hours, the battles continued. Goblin assassins, shamans, and even hulking goblin brutes challenged her. Each encounter pushed Miri to her limits, forcing her to adapt and refine her techniques. Her stamina waned, but Oculis's healing glow kept her in the fight.

On the third day, Miri faced a towering goblin chief, its armor crafted from scavenged metals and its weapon a massive spiked club. The ground trembled with each of its steps.

"This one's different," Oculis warned. "Be careful, Miri."

The goblin chief roared, swinging its club with devastating force. Miri dodged, the weapon smashing into the ground and sending a shockwave that nearly knocked her off her feet. She countered with a Rocket Burst Thrust, propelling herself forward in a flash of energy. Her blade struck true, but the chief's armor absorbed most of the impact.

"I'll have to find a weak spot," she thought, circling the beast.

The fight was relentless, each blow exchanged with precision and ferocity. As the battle raged, Miri's movements grew sharper, more fluid. She began to anticipate the chief's attacks, weaving through its defenses.

"Now!" Oculis called out.

Miri seized the opening, leaping into the air. Her blade glowed with an intense light as she activated her new skill.

"Single Slash to Thousand Cuts!"

Time seemed to slow as her single sword swing unleashed a barrage of multiple cuts, each one faster and more precise than the last. The goblin chief roared in agony as its armor shattered under the relentless assault. With a final, devastating blow, Miri's blade pierced its chest, and the massive creature collapsed.

By the end of the fourth day, Miri had reached level 95. Exhausted but triumphant, she made her way back to the kingdom, her skills honed and her confidence renewed.

At the Guild House, she found solace in the open training area. Rows of training dummies stood waiting, and Miri wasted no time. She practiced tirelessly, perfecting her swordplay and integrating her new abilities.

Oculis floated nearby happily, its glow soft and reassuring.

Miri wiped sweat from her brow, a small smile playing on her lips. "There's still more to learn. But I'll be ready for whatever comes next."

Her strikes grew sharper, her movements more precise. With each swing of her blade, she felt the culmination of her journey—the battles fought, the skills gained, and the bond with her companions.

The group decided to part ways temporarily, each pursuing their own methods to grow stronger in preparation for the challenges ahead. Among them, Jun, Max, and Yuka headed to a nearby valley rumored to be teeming with ferocious monsters and untamed wilderness.

Max's Training: Sharpening Strength and Blade Mastery

Max adjusted the straps of his newly purchased light leather armor, the material creaking as he gripped the hilt of his brand-new greatsword. The weapon gleamed under the sunlight, its edge razor-sharp and its weight perfectly balanced.

"Finally," he muttered, swinging the blade in an arc to test its heft. "This feels just right."

"Don't get too confident," Jun quipped from nearby, flipping his dagger in his hand. "You've got a lot to learn if you're planning to master that Overdrive of yours."

Max grinned. "Then I'd better start now."

He found a clearing surrounded by jagged rocks, the perfect training ground. Drawing a deep breath, he activated his Overdrive skill. Energy surged through him, veins glowing faintly as his strength and speed amplified. With a mighty roar, he began striking at a set of boulders, each swing more powerful than the last. The greatsword hummed with raw energy, carving through stone like butter.

"Almost there," Max grunted, sweat dripping down his face. But the strain of Overdrive began to take its toll. His swings grew wilder, less precise.

"Focus, Max!" Yuka called out, observing from a distance. "Control your breathing, or you'll burn out!"

Max gritted his teeth, forcing himself to stabilize. The greatsword's final arc unleashed a shockwave that shattered the largest boulder into fragments.

"Got it!" he exclaimed, staggering slightly.

"Not bad," Jun said, tossing him a canteen of water. "But you're still sloppy. Your Overdrive skill's no joke—master it."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jun's Training: Precision and Agility
Jun's training focused on refining his flexibility and stamina. He scaled a steep cliffside, using his wired hook to swing between jagged outcroppings. The device whirred as he launched himself from ledge to ledge, his movements growing more fluid with each attempt.
"Faster, Jun!" he muttered to himself. "You can't afford to be slow."
Spotting a cluster of flying monsters—Harpies—circling above, Jun grinned. He drew a set of needles from his belt, aiming carefully. With a flick of his wrist, the needles sailed through the air, striking their targets with pinpoint accuracy. The Harpies screeched as they plummeted to the ground.
"Bullseye," he said, landing lightly on the valley floor. He turned his attention to a lurking Beastclaw Bear, its claws glinting as it charged him.
Jun's wired hook shot out, wrapping around a tree branch. He swung upward, dodging the bear's swipe. With a burst of speed, he dropped down, driving his dagger into the beast's shoulder. The bear roared in pain, but Jun's agility proved too much for it. Dodging another strike, he leaped onto its back, plunging his dagger into its nape. The Beastclaw collapsed with a final growl.
"Strength, speed, and precision," Jun muttered, wiping his blade clean. "They're all coming together alright."
Yuka's Training: Commanding the Wild
Yuka stood atop a ridge, her summons gathered around her in a semi-circle. Blubby, her green slime, shifted into its Blitz Form, its body crackling with energy. Balboa, the towering rock golem, flexed its stony fists, ready for battle. Scale, the great wind wyvern, stretched its wings and let out a piercing screech. Spryt, the quadra-elemental sprite, shifted between fire and wind forms, flitting around with bursts of energy. Gyutei, the poisonous frog, croaked menacingly, releasing toxic mist from his mouth.
"Go," Yuka commanded, her voice steady but firm.
The summons surged forward, engaging various monsters across the valley. Blubby's Blitz Form darted between enemies, unleashing shockwaves that knockback the enemies. Balboa smashed into a group of armored boars, its Ground Slam Quake sending tremors through the ground. Scale hovered above, raining down Wind blasts on venomous snakes slithering below. Spryt alternated between fire and water forms, hurling elemental attacks with precision, while Gyutei's Poison Mist Breath incapacitated a swarm of stinger flies.
Yuka observed their movements, noting strengths and weaknesses. "Don't hold back," she urged. "Push your limits."
As the battle intensified, a new challenger appeared: a massive Muscle-Bound Lycan. Its hulking frame dwarfed her summons, and its piercing eyes locked onto Yuka. As it rushes forward towards Yuka with a charging claw slash.
"Let's see how you do," she said, a smirk playing on her lips.
Blubby shifted into Defense Form, creating a barrier to protect Yuka that stopped the assault of the Muscle-Bound Lycan. Balboa charged forward, delivering a crushing Stony Punch to the Lycan's side. The beast retaliated, slamming its paw into Balboa's chest, which managed to send the golem staggering back. Scale swooped in, clawing at the Lycan's face before releasing a powerful Wind Cannon, but the creature remained undeterred.
"Spryt, earth form!" Yuka commanded. The sprite transformed, summoning a barrier of rocks spikes to slow the Lycan's advance. Gyutei leapt onto the beast's back, wrapping its tongue around its neck and releasing Poison Mist directly into its face.
The Lycan roared in fury but began to weaken. Yuka seized the opportunity. Raising her hand, as she casted Contract, to make the Muscle Lycan one of her summons, the Lycan growled but bowed its head as the spell took hold. Yuka placed her hand on its forehead, sealing the bond.
"I'll name you Fang," she said with a satisfied smile. "Welcome to the team!"
As the bond solidified, a surge of knowledge flooded her mind. Her next race ability, Beast Codex Insight, finally awakened. She could now discern the full details of any creature's abilities and stats.
After four days, the trio regrouped. Yuka had leveled up to 80, and her summons—Blubby, Balboa, Scale, Spryt, Gyutei, and the newly added Fang—had reached level 75. Fang, the Muscle-Bound Lycan, stood proudly by her side. Jun, now level 86, exuded confidence, his movements sharper and more precise. Max's Overdrive had become a force to be reckoned with.
"Looks like we're ready for whatever comes next," Jun said, tossing a dagger in the air.
"Agreed," Yuka said, stroking Fang's fur. "Let's make sure all this hard work pays off."
Max hefted his greatsword onto his shoulder. "We've got this. Let's show them what we're made of."
Elma worked tirelessly, her sleeves rolled up as she carefully measured ingredients. Vials bubbled with volatile liquids, and the room was filled with a kaleidoscope of colors from various mixtures. Her hammer, freshly forged and gleaming with enchantments, rested on the workbench beside her.
"This one should do it," Elma muttered, dropping a final pinch of powder into a potion. The mixture hissed, turning a dark green. "A poison effect—subtle but deadly."
She reached for a lined-up array of vials, each labeled with effects such as Burn, Drowsiness, Internal Bleeding, and Confusion. Picking up a crimson flask, she tossed it onto a nearby testing dummy. Upon impact, the potion exploded, and the dummy's surface charred instantly. The effect spread like wildfire.
"Explosion, perfect!" she exclaimed, spinning another flask filled with grey liquid with excitement. "Now for the slowness effect."
Her familiar—a small, enchanted golem she had named Pebble—observed dutifully. It handed her a beaker filled with liquid frost.
"Thanks, Pebble," Elma said, patting the golem's head. As she then mixed both the grey liquid in the flask she was holding with the liquid frost "Let's see if this can immobilize a burst wolf."
By the end of her training and experiments, Elma had crafted a new arsenal of potions, each designed to inflict status effects that could turn the tide of battle. She swung her new hammer in practice arcs, testing its weight and balance.
"Ok... Ready for anything!" she whispered to herself, determination flashing in her eyes.
