Chapter 52: The Gift

Gifts were everywhere!

The medical office's front door and the hallway outside were nearly blocked by vivid and beautifully wrapped gift boxes, with staff members continuously adding more gifts to the pile. Two elegantly respectful women stood by the office, looking like guardians of the door, one holding a bamboo box and the other carrying a lavish paper bag.

My immediate reaction was: all these gifts must be for me; why else would they be placed right at the entrance of the medical office in such a large company? Thinking about the jealous stares of my colleagues, it seemed even more probable.

But as soon as I started to think rationally, it seemed impossible. It wasn't a holiday season, and my birthday had passed quite some time ago. Why would anyone send gifts, and so many at that?
