Shen Heyu sensed something off about his change in demeanor; she mulled it over in her mind for a long while before finally squeezing out two words: "Thank you."
Pei Yansi snorted with a laugh, albeit a faint one due to the injuries he had sustained, "Thank me for what?"
Shen Heyu's hands trembling at her sides, she said, "Thank you for saving me."
"Sit."
Pei Yansi gestured for her to sit down.
After hesitating for two seconds, she sat on the soft sofa next to her. Her body, tense throughout the day, felt momentarily soothed and relaxed, yet his next words made her tense up again.
"Aren't you the least bit interested in me?" he asked.
Shen Heyu lowered her eyes without speaking, which in Pei Yansi's eyes, was tantamount to an indirect admission.
He said, "I saved you; what do you think was the reason for that?"
Shen Heyu remained silent, still non-responsive.
