Chapter 6 - At First Sight

Me? Why me? Why did this man of every girl's dreams want to do it again with me? My mind flashes back to our one night stand ...... I can almost still feel his hands on my body, my body trembling under his touch. He was so gentle when we made love. Was he like that with all the girls?

Alarms went off inside me, "Don't trust this playboy."

I couldn't believe the sincerity of his feelings. "Look, you got what you wanted," I said and pulled away from us. "We did sleep together once. Seriously, did someone put you up to this? To catch me out,"" Enzo frowned and took a step back. "No one made me do it," he said softly. "When we made love, I felt very different. It didn't feel anything like all the one-night stands I've had before. So I want to try again and see what else happens between us." "Oh, so I was just an experiment for you," I snapped. "A test."

"I only made love to you on impulse," I said, "I was having a bad night. I was just then being cheated on by a man. If I hadn't, I never would have slept with a player like you."

Enzo looked me up and down before crossing his arms over his chest again. "I just thought you enjoyed our last experience. I didn't realize I'd be an obstacle for you." Admittedly, Enzo's words make me feel a little guilty.

I bowed my head. "I did enjoy it," I replied calmly.

Then Enzo took a few steps toward me. "Then why deny it again?" He said softly. "By the way ...... you look beautiful tonight." He lifted my chin, thus making me look into his eyes. I could see his pupils dilate and the irises around them change from a soft brown color to a subtle red.

Just before he went to kiss me, I gasped and ducked and nearly tripped over a rock in the road.

Was he doing something?

Enzo looked at me with an expression on his face I couldn't read.

"What's wrong?" "It's just ...... I'd like it better if what happened last night was the only time," I say. "Please stop. I really don't want to be hunted by hundreds of other girls at this school."

Enzo didn't say anything for a long time.

Enzo sighed heavily and stuck his hands in his pockets. "Fine." "But if you change your mind, I'll be here. I'm usually pretty patient with important people."

I didn't say anything else. I turned and ran around the cabin, back to the fire, where everyone was still dancing

-even though they were all much drunker than before.

As I ran towards the fire I looked back but Enzo, who I still couldn't see, was there.Just then I hit something solid and fell to the ground - well, I almost fell to the ground, but a pair of strong arms caught me.

Enzo! I looked up to see Enzo holding me. He looked down at me with worry on his face.

Lisa was sitting in front of me, pissed off because her ex-boyfriend was hugging me.

"Watch out, bitch!" She growled, standing and dusting herself off.

I pushed Enzo's hand away and took a few steps. "I'm sorry," I say, holding my hands up in submission.

Lisa glared angrily at Enzo, crossing her arms over her chest while her pretty face turned bright red.

"Babe! I can't believe you caught her and not me. Anyway, it's her fault!"

"Don't call me baby." Enzo shook his head, then gave me one last look and walked back to the party.

I walked around Lisa ready to go back to the party, but she stopped me by grabbing my arm.

"What makes you think you have the right to fool around with my ex?" She growled.

"Oh, come on," Lisa said mockingly. "Justin was never your boyfriend. He was just looking for someone to fill the void when I was too busy to fuck him. I mean, look at you." She pointed at my body. "You're such a nerd. Those stupid dreadlocks aren't going to appeal to anyone."

"What's your fucking problem?" I said.Lisa giggled and walked towards me. She was shorter than me and looked almost comical to my eyes.

"Enzo was just pretending to flatter you because he wanted to humiliate me. He obviously still misses me. He'll do anything to make me jealous after I dumped him last semester." I frowned at Lisa's words. I always knew Enzo was just playing games with me, but they still sounded hurtful.

"Look," I said, "I'm not interested in Enzo. There's no use playing any games with you. Let's go."

"Oh, we'll go our separate ways," Lisa said, and I turned and walked back to the party.

My hands trembled with anger. If there's one thing I hated most in this world, it was betrayal and infidelity. I knew relationships between field hockey players and cheerleaders were pretty messed up, but I didn't realize they'd actually gone crazy.

Whatever happened with Enzo and Lisa, I wanted no part of it. I shouldn't have gotten involved in the first place. But why did Enzo keep finding me in different places? Did he put a GPS on me?
