Chapter 101

Emma's POV

I hadn't seen a worse expression on Chase's face than I saw when I announced that I was pregnant. Not like he looked disgusted or angry, it was just blank. The kind of blankness that births bad decisions.

I literally didn't know how to do it any better.

"You're not saying anything." I croaked, nearly choking on my words.

It wasn't exactly the best time to announce it, but I literally didn't know what else to do.

The past days had been bliss, so beautiful I held the news back.

I was scared of what his reaction would be, which is the exact reason I decided to say so in the midst of people.

Chase had his eyes fixed on me, but still it didn't see like he was actually seeing me.

 "Baby?" I called him.

"Uhm, I'm sorry." He said, "Can we talk about it later?" He asked.

"Sure." I didn't have the emotional strength to even have the conversation at all.

"I'll be back." He said, and kissed my forehead. It was frosty as hell. It didn't feel like the warm lips that kissed all over my body only a few minutes ago.

It broke my heart thinking of what could be going on in his mind.

Admittedly, it might have been the wrong time, but it didn't justify how cold he was, and how quickly he switched.

I saw the worried look on Lily's face before Gray dragged her outta the awkward situation, it was freaking embarrassing.

That's the guy I was gonna spend my life with. Thoughts were running riot in my head.

"Okay." I replied weakly, holding on to the chair arm for stability and balance.

It was supposed to be a reunion, a happy thing. I wiped my face with the sleeves of Chase's clothes I had on.

The smug, cute feeling I had when I put on his things had fled, I fought the urge to storm upstairs and change into what I wore the day I came. It'd just have caused further friction.

I waited in the silence, with my horrible thoughts.

"You really fucked this one up, Emma." I said to myself, involuntarily releasing another stream of pent up tears. I thought I could control myself, thought I could hold it in, act normal till we were alone again.

"No you didn't." Lily said, and put her hands on my shoulders from behind. "A child is a happy thing." She added, smiling. I missed her gum smile. I could really get used to having my best friend around. It was sure gonna be a bit bearable.

"Really?" I asked, letting down my defenses.

"Yeah." She replied, gayly. "Wipe those tears, bitchhhhh!" She screamed.

Lily had such a good ass aura. She made me feel a lot better instantly.

"The guys are up." She answered my yet unasked question, "That bedroom brags of intense sexual intercourse ." She whispered.

 "Stop it." I squealed.

"You, need to stop it." She deflected. "At that rate, you'd be popping babies every year." She groaned. "I still have dreams of gracing the runway with you, you know, model besties." She hugged herself tight in anticipation of her dream coming true.

"You're just being dramatic." I said, forcing a smile.

"No I'm not. I'm Lily, who's 'Dramatic'? Are you cheating on me?" She sucked in all the air with her mouth and made a really funny pose.

"You don't have to take it upon yourself to make me feel better, Lily." I said, seeing through her. "It's not your cross to bear." I added.

"We won't be together forever." She said,

"I know." I sighed. "It happened so fast." I murmured, looking back on the past eight months.

"We look ahead, Emma, not behind." She said, giving me her hands.

"Gotten." I replied, taking her hands.

Lily pulled me up to my feet.

"He'd come around." She said, addressing the elephant in the room. "Maybe next time,"

"There's not gonna be a next." I protested immediately.

"Well, some news is better broken privately. I don't want Gray having those ideas." She said in a lower voice. Lily rolled her eyes in fear, looking behind to make sure they weren't near.

It made me smile, for a while. "Thank you." I said, hugging her.

"Anytime, Love." She said, "Let's wipe our eyes shall we? It's a happy day." Lily poured a glass for herself, and a smaller one for me, giving me a knowing look.

 "Come on!" I winced.

"You have to go gentle." She snatched the bottle away from me, rubbing my tummy. I slapped her hand off, snatched the bottle and ran upstairs with it.

"What was that for?" She asked, running after me.

"For faking your own death." I screamed at her, laughing. I didn't stop till I bumped into Gray, where he stood with Chase.

He held me before I lost my balance and toppled down the stairs I just ran up. It would've been a disaster.

"I'm so sorry." I apologized to him, laughing at Lily who was panting and still after me. "Blame the drink in my hand." I excused myself.

"I think I need some of that myself." Gray said and took the bottle from him.

"You sly!" Lily said and grabbed me when she was finally within reach.

 "It's a relief you don't actually run on a runway." I joked.

Gray and Lily were in stitches, but Chase remained stoic, looking in other directions.

I was determined to not let his mood dampen mine. If he chooses not to laugh at my jokes cause I was carrying his baby, then he's just gonna have to deal with that.

"Come on man." Gray nudged him, still laughing.

Chase let out one or two dry chuckles to save face.

"Have you guys got anything to eat in this house?" Gray asked. "I know you've been eating pussy all day." He said, referring to Chase.

Shamelessly, it made me blush.

I tried to hide it, but it wasn't working.

Against my best interest and that of my mental health, I looked at Chase, and he made a 'shrug off' expression.

It was at the tip of my tongue to ask Lily and Gray for some space so I could talk to him.

They were all over each other, and it felt sad that Chase and I were not that way.

"How about we play some games and order take-outs?" He asked, smiling.

"I like how you think." Gray remarked, making everyone laugh. We'd all known he was a foodie.

"You're coming from a wedding, man." Chase replied to him.

"Doesn't mean shit." He shot at him. "Order an extra large chicken pizza." He said, carrying Lily downstairs.

 "Can I…" I started.

"Right behind y'all." Chase said, and followed right behind them.

I sucked up my pride, and trailed behind him. There was gonna be another time, surely.

Dusk was setting, Gray and Lily wouldn't be around for much longer.

Chase fumbled with his phone, trying to order the take out.

Gray and Lily were busy getting reacquainted, they did every short of making out. It made me happy to see them both happy.

Then there was me, lost and confused, scared too.
