Chapter 126

Chase's POV

"Doughnuts do not always fix stuff."Kayla said after sinking her pretty white teeth into a fat chocolate glazed ball.

"They help you feel better." I replied to her. "I got them on my way back yesterday, felt bad I left you out there like that, figured it was the best thing to apologize with." I rapped.

I've ever really been too expressive with my emotions, being with Emma taught me that.

Seeing Emma in every girl was holding me back from wanting to be with, or even talk to one.

"You've gotta realize that not every girl is that way." Kayla said, looking into the box of three untouched doughnuts, and about six that she'd bitten into, "There's no point to anything if you think me to be her."

 "That's not it." I denied, I didn't believe it, and I knew she didn't either, "I'm sorry."

I've had to apologize to many fucking times over the past few weeks,, I didn't even know if I could do any right.

"You don't have to be." Kayla said, really looking at me for the first time. "There's a frat party tonight, can you make it?" She asked.

It seemed like an opportunity to escape my reality.

"When is it?" I asked, playing it cool.

"Starts by eight, parties like those never give a stop time." She smiled.

"Are those your kinda thing?" I asked her.

"Nah," Kayla replied looking away, "I just wanna do things differently henceforth. Now stop quizzing me and give a yes or no." She looked back at me.

"Nice." She smiled, and I looked away.

"I think I wanna head to the library." I said, excusing myself

I had a bunch of stuff to catch up on before dusk, if I was gonna be partying.

"Don't you need a buddy?" She asked, looking away.

Her comical expression made me laugh.

"Just say you don't wanna leave me." I replied to her.

"I'm not one to judge perspectives, Chase." She replied proudly, "We're in an open minded society."

"Let's hurry then." I gave her a hand and she took it, leaving her half-eaten doughnuts on the bench.

 "That's called littering." I said.

"I see it as feeding the poor." Kayla smiled.

She was witty, and wasn't scared to show it, fast with her tongue too.

"If you're sure you're gonna walk with me, you've gotta have some speed." I joked.

I was in tracksuits and pants. I planned to do a little run around before heading home.

"You look more like a British rapper than a Harvard student." Kayla commented.

"You always have something to say." I replied to her.

"Is it a bad thing?" She stopped walking and looked at me. "You like girls clueless and unsure?" She asked again.

"Can't remember saying anything like that." I protested.

"So why do I surprise you? She asked.

"You say things as they come to you." I said. "She used to be that way, uh, sorry I said that."

 "It's alright." Kayla replied.

"What are you reading?" I asked her as we neared the main library.

It was a giant building with an underground floor.

Guys and girls on roller-skates, dancers and littered the place.

 "Whatever you are." She replied.

"Is that even a thing?" I asked her. "I really hope you know what you are doing. It seems as though you're just trying to make sure I don't unalive myself." I said. "It's my life, Kayla, not yours. I barely even just met you. I'd see you at the party." I said.

"Alright, alright." She gave in and turned right back.

I felt bad again, as shitty as I felt the day before. I didn't turn back and abandon her this time, I just made her do it to me.

In my defense, it's hard to see anyone making sacrifices for me.

Since Emma, I think I'm done with that life.

I didn't want a life where I'd feel indebted, and I sure as hell wasn't gonna let anyone go out of their way for me.

The day went by, and soon it was so minutes past six.

I quietly picked the books I'd been reading, and headed for the locker room where the bags were kept.

I was out in no time, and ready to get changed for the party.

It's the first party I'd been to since Emma. She kinda killed the party boy in me, and I was ready to resurrect it with some booze and the sight of half naked girls begging to give me a lap dance.

I checked into my apartment and had a quick shower, before switching clothes to something more suitable for the night.

I took care not to wear designer brands, cause as much as I wanted the attention, I was sure my social batteries were near flat and there was no way I was gonna be able to sustain all that attention.

"Hey Kayla." I peeped her with about two other girls I'd seen in class before.

"Hey handsome." one of them offered while Kayla looked away.

I smiled at her and tactfully avoided her freshly manicured hands that she brought my way

"Can I steal her away for a minute?" I asked them, already taking Kayla's hand, grateful that she wasn't fighting me off.

"Yeah, sure." They answered in unison, still with their eyes glued to parts of my body I'm sure they'd never see.

"I'm sorry about earlier." Isad as soon as we got to where the music allowed a bit of an audible interaction.

"There's been too many of those lately, don't you think?" She smiled, but it didn't even reach her eyes.

Kayla looked extra beautiful. Half of her breasts were on display, making me wonder how comfortably my head would rest on those.

"It's still all too fresh, Kayla." I explained.

"What's the worst that could happen, Chase?" She asked, kissed me and turned right back.

I couldn't believe what had just happened.

It was too fast for my brain to have followed, and that's cause my dick was beginning to get some of the blood supply.
