An hour later, I was sitting near the fireplace, which was lit up after shade went out and brought some wood. The room was eerie, half burnt wallpaper, completely destroyed couches. Cobwebs on the top corners. The light from the fireplace was the only source of light in that room as the windows were closed by wood planks nailed to it. The package Gauri gave us was food. We all ate it and everyone was sleeping. I couldn't get sleep, whenever I close my eyes the memory of him getting hit by the cops appears, whenever I try to sleep the sound of his painful groans rings in my ears. It felt calmer and relieved sitting here watching them sleep peacefully.
But then I noticed only 3 of them were there. Skyler is not in the room. I stood up from where I was sitting and started looking for him.
The house was a small one. One small kitchen, two bedrooms, a common bathroom and a living room. The fireplace was in the living room, as it was the only warm one, we decided to sleep in there. There were pictures hung on the walls of one of the bedroom. It was all so messy and the pictures were old, it was hard to recognize the face. The pictures were of a small boy, even though the face was not clear I could feel how happy he was.
The tall man with him must be his father, he had long hair and a thin moustache, his smile so wide and the green eyes. The woman with blonde hair with him must be the boy's mother. She was a blonde with green eyes. On one side of the bedroom, old toys were lying there. Vines covering most of them.
I walked into the second room, it was a bigger one compared to the first one. This must be his parent's room. There was a small picture of the family hanging above the bed. That one was clear and she could see the face. The boy had brown hair and green eyes, he was standing in between his father and his mother, all three of them smiling. They looked like a very happy family.
I then walked out of the house and saw Skyler sitting there in the porch.
"Why are you here? Alone?" I sat beside him.
"Mother, she must be worried." He smiled looking into the dark sky. "She always worries, for me a lot."
"After all this is over, we can go back to her again." I placed my hand on his shoulder.
"I know, she's just so protective of me sometimes I get worried on how hard she tries. Dany is there, he is the only relief I have now." He sighed.
"Everything will be back to normal ok?" I took his hand in mine and squeezed it.
I don't know much about the Murphys but I do know that his mother loves him way more than his other siblings. They didn't mind it, his siblings also adored him just as much as his mother did. Adeline Murphy, his sister and a famous actress, calls him often even after having a busy schedule. Daniel Murphy, his brother, has been there for him ever since I could remember.
"I don't know why, but I trust you." He squeezed back.
"Is Addie back in town?" I asked. She usually visits during this time. I have seen in news, since she is famous the paparazzis always knew where she went.
"Before I left, No. And about now? I don't now." He said shaking his head then looking back at the sky. "She usually hesitates to visit home after you know, mother kicked her out years ago. I think they are patching up slowly. Dany is so done trying to make it work." He let out a small laugh. I laughed too imagining about Daniel trying playing cupid between his mother and sister.
The night was dark and eerie. Being out of the city in a lonely place, it was so quiet and dark. Chirping or crickets and other wild birds filled the surroundings like a blankets. Howling of wolfs from the woods a hundred miles from here was heard. The moon looked like a broken mirror due to the branches of the trees.
I turned to Skyler, who was now looking into the room where others were sleeping through the gap in the window. Something warm and innocence sparkled in that dark brown eyes as it watched them. He looked tired, dark circles, his hair all messy. I must be looking like hell too.
"Get some sleep, you look like hell." I playfully slapped on his back.
"I can't." He turned to me. "I just… can't." he buried his face into his hands.
"Come here" I pulled him up to his feet and took him to the room. I sat on to the floor. He sat next to me. He was still looking at the others. "Lay down. Here" I slapped on my thigh.
"What?" he looked at me confused.
"Shut up and lay down." I pulled his head and placed it on my lap. I then gently patted on his head massaging it, his body relaxed under my touch and he finally slept. I don't know when but eventually I dozed off too.
