We locked the door to the living room and hid behind some old furniture so no one could see us if they peek through the window. Since we parked our car at a distance I was sure whoever had came would not suspect trespassers. We then heard the sound of the front door opening and footsteps. They were walking towards the living room. The door knob turned but it didn't open. The person on the other side whispered a curse banging on the door and then the footsteps fainted.
We all stayed in the room silently. As we were sitting there my eyes fell on a scrap of paper. I reached for it. Arjun peeked from behind my shoulder to see what it was. "Heron" I whispered. "That's all written on…" something clicked. I took the letter from the mother and placed the scrap of paper next to the 'T'. "Theron. His name is Theron."
"Like Theron O'Connor, the singer?" Skyler tilted his head.
"He's in New York, idiot. How could this possibly be his house?" Alex smacked the back of his head.
"He is not the only one with that name. There may be more, like this dude," Arjun said pointing at the letters.
Shade's eyes darkened even more. He turned his head facing towards the wall. I've noticed that since we came to the house he had been acting weird. He is surely hiding something, but what? His sudden change was just like when he was a teen, the time when we lost father. He shut himself from the rest of the world for several days, silent, being paranoid. Slowly he recovered from all that for me. This was the first time in years I am seeing him like this.
I was pulled out of my thoughts when I heard the footsteps coming towards our direction, again. I slid towards him. The person tried to open the door again, after another failed attempt they left. The front door slammed shut. Then we heard the engine of a car roar and after a while the car left. We all then came out of our hiding place.
"Who was that?" Alex asked as he swiped the dust off her jeans.
"May be someone like us trying to hide?" Skyler said.
"They came in a car." Alex said. Annoyance was clear in her tone.
"So did we." Skyler hissed. She rolled her eyes. Shade was standing at a corner silently looking at the letters. He had been silent since we found that letters.
"Something is seriously wrong. Tell me." I put my hand on his shoulder. He frowned and shook his head.
"Nothing is wrong. Let's find a way to get out of this mess." He walked past me and kneeled down near Arjun. I knew something is wrong with him. Ever since he entered this house, he acted so differently. Something in this house was bothering him, but can't figure out what that is.
