Chapter 48: Sheng Ye's Gift (2)

The registration time for the query was the day after the incident, and the name of the person who registered was He Yan. In the third column, the query person's identification number was listed. From the birthdate on the ID number, Jian Yiling could confirm that this He Yan was indeed her second aunt, and not someone else with the same name.

The last column stated the reason for the retrieval:

"Lost earrings, suspected theft."

Yu Xi turned to Jian Yiling and continued, "The second notebook contains the check-in records for this year up until now. I checked it for you, and He Yan hasn't registered at this hotel at all this year."

As Yu Xi spoke, he observed Jian Yiling's fair, delicate face, trying to gauge her reaction. He hoped his explanation was clear enough and that she understood the implications. If she didn't, he would have to elaborate further to ensure she comprehended everything.

Jian Yiling certainly understood what this record indicated. She had previously attempted to access the surveillance footage from He Yanshan Resort, but the recordings from the day of the incident had gone missing. Now, the evidence in her hands suggested that He Yan likely took advantage of the chaos surrounding Jian Yiling's family after Jian Yunao's injury. She had likely gone to the hotel to either retrieve or destroy the relevant videos.

"Why did you look into this?" Jian Yiling asked, lifting her gaze to Yu Xi.

Yu Xi raised his hands in a gesture of innocence, quickly clarifying, "This wasn't my doing; it was Sheng Ye's idea. I merely showed him the posts on the Shenghua High School forum."

Yu Xi, a graduate of Shenghua High School, still had an account on the school's forum, which the institution kept active for alumni to access. He had come across Jian Yiling's posts there and brought them to Zhai Yungsheng's attention. After that, he hadn't been involved in what unfolded next.

It had taken only two or three hours from the moment he showed Sheng Ye the forum content to the arrival of the two notebooks, which were personally delivered by the hotel manager.

Jian Yiling then turned her attention to Zhai Yungsheng, who was lounging on the sofa. "Why did you think to investigate these records?"

Her voice was soft yet carried a firm seriousness that cut through the atmosphere.

Zhai Yungsheng, idly tapping the armrest of the sofa, replied at a measured pace, "Rather than rely on hearsay, I prefer to see things for myself. The time and place of the incident are easy to determine; the rest is simply asking the relevant parties for the surveillance footage."

By analyzing the timeline of Jian Yunao's injury, Zhai Yungsheng could track down the movements of Jian Yiling's family, thus pinpointing the time and location of the event. He had requested the hotel provide the footage, but the hotel manager informed him that the video was missing. Given that the incident had occurred less than two weeks prior, the disappearance of the footage seemed highly illogical.

Consequently, Zhai Yungsheng had asked for the two additional records that Jian Yiling now held. Accessing hotel check-in logs and surveillance retrieval records wasn't something just anyone could do, especially from a prestigious establishment like He Yanshan Resort. However, for Zhai Yungsheng, it posed no significant challenge.

Jian Yiling fell into thoughtful silence. The gift Zhai Yungsheng had presented her was indeed unique and precisely what she needed at that moment. After a moment of contemplation, she looked up and said, "I can't just take this from you without giving something in return. If there's anything you need, I can help with that."

Her gaze was sincere, and her tone resolute, conveying a sense of mutual respect and understanding. She recognized the value of the information she had received and felt compelled to reciprocate in some way.
