Chapter 122: First Day at Work (2)

Cheng Yi continued explaining, "Additionally, there's a communal workspace available for when you need to collaborate and discuss with others. If you prefer solitude for independent thought, you can stay in your own office or lab. But if you feel like engaging with your colleagues, that space is there for you."

As Jian Yiling made her way to the communal workspace, she found her desk already set up right beside Luo Xiuwen's and directly across from Cheng Yi. The surface was impeccably clean, and a new computer was already in place. On the desk were adorable little figurines and anime collectibles arranged neatly in two large rows, creating a cheerful atmosphere.

The cute figurines were arranged by Luo Xiuwen, while the anime figures had been placed there by Cheng Yi. Jian Yiling felt indifferent to these playful decorations; they simply didn't resonate with her tastes. Yet, it seemed she was unable to escape the fate of being surrounded by such cute and colorful items, whether it was in her room at the Jian family residence, her school supplies, or now at her new office desk.

To her left, Jian Yiling noticed that Luo Xiuwen's desk displayed merchandise related to the boy band Juptiter. Meanwhile, Cheng Yi's desk was overflowing with various anime figures. He had deliberately selected more adorable and playful figures for Jian Yiling's desk, while his own collection featured more glamorous and striking models, showcasing beauty and elegance.

Settling into her new position, Jian Yiling powered on her computer and began to immerse herself in her work. The rest of the researchers quickly fell into their work routines as well. Although the arrival of a new colleague was an exciting event, everyone was well aware that they were in a professional environment and needed to focus on their tasks.

Jian Yiling logged into the research institute's application system, a privilege she gained now that she was an official member. As she navigated through the system, she stumbled upon an application and medical records related to Qin Chuan's mother. In the original story, Qin Chuan's mother suffered from a rare blood disorder, spending a long time in the hospital. The mounting medical expenses forced Qin Chuan to work tirelessly, yet tragically, his mother never lived to see his success.

This aspect of Qin Chuan's life had a profound impact on him, fueling a deep-seated resentment towards his biological father for not being there when he needed support the most. Jian Yiling perused the medical records, noting that the case had been transferred to Cheng Yi's email by a contact half a month ago, and it appeared that Cheng Yi had not rejected it.

While Jian Yiling was absorbed in the details of the medical file, Luo Xiuwen leaned over from her desk, curiosity evident in her tone. "Was that man at the door really your tutor? The one who teaches physical education?"

"Besides physical education, yes," Jian Yiling confirmed, keeping her response concise.

"That's quite surprising," Luo Xiuwen remarked. "By the way, what's his name? I'd like to check out the medical case he submitted!"

"Qin Chuan," Jian Yiling replied.

Luo Xiuwen's expression shifted to one of recognition. "That name sounds somewhat familiar. Cheng Yi, is this your case?"

Cheng Yi stood up, nodding. "Yes, it is my case, and I'm still holding onto it."

"Holding onto it? So, you're considering taking it on?" Luo Xiuwen inquired, her eyebrows raised.

In general, cases that were not pursued were outright rejected, so the fact that Cheng Yi was holding onto it indicated a possibility of acceptance.

"Correct," Cheng Yi affirmed. "I'm interested in this case, particularly because of the unique nature of the blood disorder. I believe that studying it could lead to significant breakthroughs in my research on blood diseases. However, I currently have another case on my plate, so I must wait until I finish that one before I can take this on."

As the conversation unfolded, Jian Yiling's interest in the case deepened. She felt a sense of empathy for Qin Chuan, recognizing the struggles he must have faced and the weight of responsibility he carried for his mother. The atmosphere in the research institute buzzed with a sense of purpose and collaboration, and Jian Yiling felt herself becoming more entwined in this new environment, where her knowledge and skills could potentially contribute to meaningful research that could change lives.

The excitement of her first day, coupled with the seriousness of the cases at hand, ignited a determination within her. She was ready to embrace the challenges ahead, aware that her contributions could make a real difference. The research institute was not just a workplace; it was a realm of possibilities, and she was eager to dive into the world of research that awaited her.
