Chapter 136: Consent for Surgery

After watching the video, Jian Yiling quickly typed a message back to the contact on the other end:

[I agree to the terms; let's set a meeting time later.]

[Great, no problem. Dr. needs to handle her own matters first, but we hope you'll be available next week.]

The response was courteous, allowing her some breathing room without applying too much pressure.

[Understood.] Jian Yiling affirmed. Once she committed, she intended to keep her word.

After concluding the conversation, she found herself scrolling through her contacts, unsure of whom to share the video with. Her eyes landed on Jian Yuncheng's name—she hesitated for a long moment before finally deciding to open his contact.

She understood that she needed to gather evidence, and she knew the most efficient way to resolve the issue, yet the thought of discussing it with Jian Yuncheng and the others left her feeling apprehensive. She could imagine their expressions upon seeing the video; it wouldn't be a pleasant experience for them either. Jian Yuncheng had once told her that they didn't want Jian Yiling to be perceived as the one who harmed their brother, nor did they wish for Jian Yunnao to be seen as someone who had set her up.

For them, the truth—whatever it might be—would be painful.

After a moment of silence, Jian Yiling switched to another messaging app. This was the internal app used by their research institute, where all communication between colleagues took place. They avoided commercial chat apps for security reasons.

She sent a message to her contact: [I'll take on the case for the previous hand nerve surgery.]

If Jian Yunnao's hand could heal, announcing the video later could potentially soften the blow that the truth would bring to the Jian family.

Her contact replied promptly: [We were really hoping you would take on that case, but given that you have other commitments now, we don't want you to overburden yourself.]

Jian Yiling had already taken on a rare blood disease case involving Qin Chuan's mother alongside Cheng Yi. Taking on another case right now would stretch her thin. Moreover, she was currently not spending all her time at the institute. Her workload had already exceeded her limits.

The institute was not in the habit of making unreasonable demands on their staff, so the contact preferred that she manage her workload wisely.

What the contact didn't know was that Jian Yiling had not only committed to the case with Cheng Yi but also agreed to another case as a condition of her earlier negotiations.

After a brief pause, she typed a single line on the screen: [I'll take it.]

Her contact sighed in resignation; when Jian Yiling was reluctant to accept, he could plead until he was blue in the face, but when she decided she wanted to take a case, nothing could dissuade her.

Once the confirmation was made, her contact followed the proper protocols to inform the patient's family. The call went to Jian Yuncheng, as the application submitted by Hong Baizhang had listed him as the contact person.

"Mr. Jian, we'd like to inform you that your brother's case has been officially taken on by our institute…"

The institute required the patient's family to handle various formalities, and upon receiving the call, Jian Yuncheng immediately shared the news with his family.

For them, this was monumental. Even Jian Shuxing found her eyes brimming with tears.

Their son had a chance for recovery; everything was going to be okay.

Among them, Jian Yunnao was undoubtedly the one who reacted the most dramatically.
