Chapter 36: Spiritbound

Helen's POV

I felt as though I were stuck underwater as the dense, heavy darkness crushed down on me. My head was hazy, and the only sound I could make out was the murmuring, low voice of the spirit.

The voice growled, "You are mine, Helen." "Now there's no getting away from me."

I made an effort to distance myself, to recollect my identity, but the force of it continued to pull me down. I was about to give up when I felt a warm, steady, and powerful hand take hold of mine.

"Helen! Remain with me. You're stronger than this, I know that! Scott's words broke through the spirit's grip with strength and clarity.

I blinked, causing the blackness to change and slightly relax its hold. "Scott." My voice was faint, but I could hear it again when I whispered.

Scott's hand gripped mine even more firmly. "I will not abandon you," he declared angrily. Helen, fight it. You are capable of doing this.
