Chapter 43: Betrayal's Shadows

Helen's POV

Feeling the magical energy swirl about us, I carefully repeated the spell's lines after Elden as the chilly wind blew through the old library. I remained concentrated despite the flickering shadows on the walls. The spell was strong, perhaps overwhelming.

"Helen, you're doing fine," Elden stated in a soothing, quiet voice. "But keep in mind that control is crucial."

I nodded while maintaining my concentration. Strong and intense, like a torrent attempting to overflow its banks, I could feel the enchantment surging through me. I remained grounded because of Elden's soothing voice.

However, I heard a rustle behind me as I approached the most delicate phase of the spell. My heart pounding, I turned to see two shadowy men sneaking through the gaping entrance.

"Who is present?" My voice was shaky but furious as I called.
