Chapter 20: The Weight of Choices.

That evening, Kendrick sat alone in his room, staring at the letter from State University. It felt heavy in his hands, like it held his entire future. He thought about everything that had happened the training, the showcase, the threats from Trenton's crew. Everything he had worked for was on the line.

His phone buzzed, snapping him out of his thoughts. It was a message from Coach Ray.

"Hope you're ready to make us proud, Rivers. You've got what it takes. Don't let anyone make you doubt that."

Kendrick felt a small smile tug at his lips. Coach Ray believed in him, even when things felt impossible. He put the letter down and picked up the basketball sitting by his bed, running his fingers over the worn leather. Basketball had always been his escape, his way of finding peace.

As he dribbled the ball slowly, he thought about his mom, his dreams, and even Trenton. Trenton had been his friend once, his brother on and off the court. But somewhere along the line, their paths had split. Kendrick had chosen hope, while Trenton had chosen survival, bound to the streets.

He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. He was done with the streets, done with the drama. This was his life, his choice.

Tomorrow, he'd head back to the gym and train harder than ever. He'd block out the threats, the doubts, the fears. The future was his to claim, and he wasn't going to let anyone take it from him.

Kendrick tossed the ball across the room, watching as it bounced against the wall and rolled back to him. He caught it, feeling the weight of it in his hands, feeling the weight of his dreams.

This was only the beginning.
