Chapter 97: Madison

My worry grows the closer we get to seven. Of course, Hamilton doesn’t stress at all. I remind him that I’m the one that kept the secret and told lies to cover it. He was innocent in it all.

As the caravan of four trucks stir up dust on the gravel lane, I nearly experience a panic attack. Memphis distracts Liberty in the house until we are ready for her to make her big appearance outside. On the porch, watching them park, Hamilton kisses me. It starts sweetly and quickly heats. His lips surround mine, his hot tongue tangles with mine, so deep and so long I forget where we are.

As my thoughts come back into focus, our friends stand in front of us, clapping.

“We’re engaged,” Hamilton declares, squeezing me tight to his side.

Adrian lifts my left hand, and they admire his grandmother’s ring.

“It’s about damn time.” Troy pats Hamilton on the back with a loud thump.

Hamilton turns to me. His furrowed brow and tight mouth signal his confusion by Troy’s statement.
