I lay my head on a towel at the back of the tub, letting the warm water and bubbles penetrate my tired muscles. I let the heat soak into my soul. I need it to wash away the last month of travel with my book tour and the Cubs. Although I put on a brave face for others, I’m exhausted and every muscle aches.
Memphis and Fallon care for Liberty, so I clear my mind, putting in my ear buds, letting the music carry me away. My eyes close, and I allow my arms to float languidly atop the water. I stretch my legs by pointing then relaxing my feet, one after the other. I press my shoulders back then forward a few times, relaxing the kinks. Moments pass too fast; soon, the water chills, and I must extricate myself from the once warm haven.
