Esmerelda Rosewood spends 17 years running away from her nightmare home. Entering Sunset School marks a new start to her life, and she enjoys everything on campus except the weird class schedule.
The campus is divided into day school and night school. Esmerelda, who is assigned to night school, has to adapt to the late schedule and strange classmates. They always stare at her like lions staring at sheep.  
But Esmerelda doesn’t care about that. She meets a boy named Elijah in night school. He is like moonlight illuminating her dark life, and she enjoys every minute spent with him. 
One day, a new transfer student rushes into night school and strikes students there. Finally, Esmerelda discovers the unknown side of her classmates: elegant and gentle but also cruel, fierce, and bloodthirsty.
That includes Elijah.
What should Esmerelda do? Return back to a normal but peaceful life, or stay in the dark with Elijah? It is the most difficult choice Esmerelda has ever made.

I tried to step back when Elijah turned to me. Then I realized I had no reason to do that. No matter how frightening he was, he was just a teenager. I shouldn’t be afraid of him.


I winced at how small and trembling my voice sounded. I didn’t want to appear that way in front of such a handsome boy. I straightened and smiled at him and tried again.”I’m excited to be here at Sunset High. I’m actually new here.”


I doubted that I really needed to say that considering I was getting stares that definitely implied that they had never seen me before. 


I could feel their stares on my back and all over the rest of my body too but I didn't pay them too much mind. I was preoccupied by the intense violet eyes of the boy in front of me.
