*Esmerelda*
It was as if the whole room fell away when I saw Elijah standing in the corner. He was almost completely hidden to the point where I wondered if anyone else in the room noticed him. He was hidden by shadows, but his violet eyes were burning brightly. They were the part of him that made me certain he wasn’t a figment of my imagination.
I stood abruptly from the table, determined to catch Elijah this time. Just as before, as soon as I moved, so did he. I seemed to blink, and he disappeared from my sight. The only sign that he had been there at all was the doors leading out of the dining hall were swaying back and forth, indicating that Elijah had just used his supernatural speed to burst through them.
Every muscle in my body tensed, preparing to make a break for it to go after him. It took a couple of seconds for my brain to turn back on and gently remind me that if Elijah was truly trying to avoid me, he would be impossible to catch, especially for a slow human like me.
