“Mira! Thank the Goddess you’re okay!” Carlos’s voice cut through the rush of wind.


He had shifted back to his human form, his face tight with concern despite the clear pain from his own injuries. His voice, though strained, carried a note of relief. 


“We were really lucky that Alpha got here just in time,” he said. “I can’t even imagine what would’ve happened otherwise.”


Jane chimed in, “Seriously! I never thought we’d make it out with just twenty people. The Shadow Guards really live up to the hype.”


The words “Shadow Guards” struck me. My heart skipped a beat. If Zeke was here, did that mean… as one of his Shadow Guards, Joshua was here too? Wait, why did Zeke come to save us in the first place? Was it because of Joshua too?


If so, where was Joshua now? I glanced around. Could he be one of the wolves running beside us?
