Chapter 50 Why don’t you hate me

For a moment, all I could think of was—she knew my identity? Since when?

But I snapped out of it very quickly.

The room was a mess.

Mira had knocked me to the ground when she lunged at me, her IV still attached, yanking the tubes and medical equipment down with her. Everything had crashed to the floor, making enough noise to stir the nurses outside.

The sound of hurried footsteps caught my attention, followed by a soft knock on the door.

“Is everything okay in there?” A gentle female voice floated through, laced with concern.

Mira’s grip on the knife didn’t loosen, but her attention briefly flickered toward the door. I kept my eyes on her, not daring to make a sudden move. Forcing the tightness in my throat to loosen, I managed to rasp, “Yes, everything’s fine.”

There was a brief pause on the other side of the door. “Are you sure? It sounded like something—”

“Yes, I’m sure!” I interrupted, my voice stronger now, trying to convey authority. “Leave us.”
