Chapter 24: I Just Want to Know if You're Angry

"I'm sorry, but I can't disclose that. Unless I meet the Ghostly Hands healer in person," the man replied, showing some wit despite the circumstances.

Gu Yining smirked coldly, swiftly delivering a chop to the back of his neck.

He collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

"Trying to get an appointment without revealing your identity? Dream on," she said, brushing off her hands with a charming smile.

Then, she pressed all the buttons for the elevator floors, ensuring the doors would open on every level. Choosing one, she kicked the unconscious man out before the elevator finally stopped on the ninth floor.

With an air of confidence, Gu Yining strode out onto the ninth floor. She believed she had executed her plan flawlessly as she walked through the corridor, heading for the staircase.

However, at the stairwell entrance, she was confronted by her husband, Fu Hanning.

Dressed in a sharp black suit, he stood there like an immovable mountain, flanked by Li Feng and the same black-clad bodyguards who had been tailing her earlier.

Oh!

In that instant, realization hit her.

The one searching for the Ghostly Hands healer was none other than Fu Hanning.

"Hey, darling! What a coincidence to run into you here! I came to the hospital for a check-up related to pregnancy preparation. What about you? What brings you here?" Gu Yining asked, her voice slightly wavering.

Her beautiful eyes darted around, avoiding Fu Hanning's penetrating gaze, which felt as if it could see straight through her.

"Are you the Ghostly Hands healer?" Fu Hanning's tone was serious, carrying an undeniable weight.

"Why is everyone looking for the Ghostly Hands? I was just visiting my aunt for a consultation. Is her medical skill really that impressive? Am I not better than her?" Gu Yining tried to deflect, employing a tactic of evasion.

"Gu Yining!" Fu Hanning's voice turned cold, the frustration palpable.

Even at this moment, she was still pretending.

Gu Yining froze for a few seconds, taking in his expression. It seemed he was closing in on the truth that she was indeed the Ghostly Hands healer.

The Fu family held significant power in Ling City; tracing her identity wouldn't be difficult for them.

Moreover, she was weary from playing cat and mouse with those who had been investigating her for so long.

"Yes, I am the Ghostly Hands healer," she finally admitted, crossing her arms defiantly and lifting her chin with a sense of boldness.

At her confession, Fu Hanning's expression turned even colder, as if a bitter chill had enveloped them.

This wasn't the outcome he had anticipated.

Why did it have to be her?

After all this, he had come full circle, seeking her help for healing.

It was exhausting!

"You must be looking for me to treat you, right? I remember saying that I would take my time to help you heal, but it seems you don't trust my skills. Now that you know the Ghostly Hands is the wife you once looked down on, I just have to ask you—are you angry?" Gu Yining's lips curved into a smirk as she stared at Fu Hanning, challenging him.

At this moment, Fu Hanning's face was darker than ever, radiating frustration.

Seeing him in such a flustered state brought her an unexpected sense of delight.

Coughing lightly to suppress her amusement, she reminded herself to tone it down.

"Li Feng, withdraw all of our men! We're leaving," Fu Hanning said, possibly incensed by Gu Yining's smugness.

Without another word, he turned to leave with his men.

"Hey... Darling, wait for me! I never said I wouldn't help you. Do you really think begging me would kill you?" Gu Yining hurriedly followed, naturally linking her arm with his.

Fu Hanning, as if she were an unsightly piece of trash, roughly pried her hand away.

Yet, no matter how many times he pushed her away, Gu Yining persistently clung to him, refusing to back down.

"You really have no shame, do you?" Fu Hanning grumbled through clenched teeth.

As his words sank in, Gu Yining's hand slowly slipped from his arm. She stood frozen, her beautiful face suddenly losing all color. "Fu Hanning, do you really find me that intolerable? What's wrong with holding my husband's hand?"

For a moment, silence filled the air between them. Gu Yining felt a mix of frustration and confusion. She just wanted to express her feelings, but Fu Hanning's reactions made it seem like she was the problem.

Seeing the icy distance between them, she took a deep breath, determined not to let his demeanor deter her. "I'm your wife, and I have every right to be by your side. You might not want to admit it, but I care about you, and I want to help. Isn't that what couples do?"

Fu Hanning's expression softened slightly at her words, but he quickly masked it with indifference. "It's not that simple, Gu Yining."

"Why not? You're acting like I'm the enemy here!" she retorted, unable to hide her exasperation.

"You have no idea how complicated things are," he said, his tone now tinged with frustration.

"Then help me understand! I want to be there for you, but you keep shutting me out. It's not fair!" Gu Yining pleaded, her eyes shining with determination.

Fu Hanning hesitated, caught between his frustration and the genuine concern he saw in her eyes. "It's not about you, Yining. It's about the circumstances."

"Then let's face those circumstances together!" she urged, her voice firm.

For a moment, Fu Hanning remained silent, contemplating her words. In that instant, the barriers between them seemed to tremble.

Gu Yining took a small step closer, her heart racing. "I don't want to be just your wife in name. I want to be the partner who fights alongside you. We can overcome anything if we stand united."

Finally, Fu Hanning sighed, running a hand through his hair in a gesture of resignation. "I didn't want to burden you with my problems. I thought it would be easier this way."

"But keeping me in the dark is hurting both of us," she replied softly, her voice steady but gentle. "I want to share your burdens, not just your triumphs."

After a tense pause, he finally nodded, albeit reluctantly. "Fine. I'll explain everything later. But for now, let's focus on you helping me. Can we start over?"

"Of course," Gu Yining said, relief flooding through her. "Just know I'll be here for you, no matter what."

As they began to walk side by side, the tension between them slowly dissipated. Gu Yining couldn't help but feel that perhaps this moment marked the beginning of a new chapter in their relationship—one where they would face challenges together, hand in hand.
