Chapter 38: Let’s Have a Baby—Right Now

"Y-yes, Young Master." The servants exchanged glances at the fallen door on the ground, unsure of what to say. It was clear that Fu Hanye simply wanted to enter his wife's room; he could have easily unlocked it with a key. Why go through the trouble of removing the door only to put it back on?

The thoughts of the servants were left unvoiced as they awkwardly lifted the door, straining to reattach it. Finally, after a considerable effort, they managed to get it back in place. With the door secured, they exited the room, leaving Gu Yining inside.

The lights remained off, plunging the room into darkness, save for a sliver of warm twilight that faintly illuminated the contours of her figure. Gu Yining was bundled under the covers, feigning sleep.

Suddenly, she felt a weight pressing down on her, a strong masculine presence enveloping her. Startled, she opened her eyes to find Fu Hanye's cold gaze mere inches from her face.

"W-what are you doing?" she stammered, anxiety creeping into her heart.

"Didn't you keep saying you wanted to have a baby?" Fu Hanye's grip tightened around her waist as he roughly yanked the blanket aside, exposing her.

With him pinning her down, Gu Yining's heart raced violently against her chest. "Right now?" she asked, her voice shaky.

"Right now," he affirmed with unwavering certainty.

Initially, a flicker of excitement ignited within her. But then, images of him with Ji Yunchuan invaded her thoughts—kissing, touching, sharing moments that should have belonged to them alone. The idea of sharing her husband with another man made her stomach turn.

"Fu Hanye, let's get a divorce!" The words spilled from her lips as she considered the painful truth: if he was gay, she would rather let him go and wish him happiness than live in this twisted, unfulfilling relationship.

Gu Yining's eyes glimmered with determination as she said it, her expression earnest, reflecting her deep contemplation. She had made her decision.

Fu Hanye's eyes widened in disbelief. He hadn't expected her to bring up divorce so suddenly. The mere mention of the word seemed to cut him to the core.

He seized her slender shoulders with force, his gaze turning fierce. "What do you think I am, Gu Yining? A toy you can play with? You want to marry me when it suits you, and divorce me when you're bored? Don't forget, I warned you—those who regret are like dogs!"

His eyes glinted red, filled with an intensity that was almost palpable.

Gu Yining, unfazed by his icy demeanor, stood her ground. "Woof, woof, woof!" she exclaimed, mimicking a dog's bark defiantly.

In a surprising turn of events, she was determined to match his intensity, embracing her resolve. Fu Hanye was momentarily taken aback by her sudden outburst, realizing she was serious about her intentions.

"You can bark all you want, but regretting won't change anything. Once you're in the Fu family, getting out isn't so easy," he said, releasing her shoulders and sitting on the edge of the bed. He pulled a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from his slacks.

He lit a cigarette, the smoke swirling around him, the soft glow of the ember flickering in the dim light. The bed felt stiff and uncomfortable beneath him; sitting there was unbearable, let alone lying down. It was unacceptable that the servants had arranged for her to stay in such a hard bed, and yet she didn't seem to mind.

A wave of frustration washed over Fu Hanye.

Gu Yining, sitting up and poking him gently in the back, continued, "We can just get divorced, right? It's not like we've been married long. Just let's go to the civil affairs office one more time. I'll book an appointment tomorrow, and it won't take too long."

"Gu Yining!" Fu Hanye snapped, crushing the half-finished cigarette under his foot.

His dark eyes bore into hers, full of barely contained rage. "You think you can just divorce me to find someone else, don't you? Well, I'm not going to make it easy for you."

Before she could respond, Fu Hanye suddenly wrapped his arms around her waist and pushed her back down onto the bed.

"Let go of me!" she protested, struggling against him, but the intensity in his eyes made her heart race for a different reason now—a mixture of fear and something unidentifiable that made her pulse quicken.

He leaned closer, his breath warm against her skin. "You wanted a baby, remember? So why not start now?"

Gu Yining swallowed hard, her thoughts swirling. This was not what she had envisioned when she'd made her declaration.
