Chapter 54: The Old Man Arrives with Fu Hanning at the Gu Family Home

"What are you all making noise about? The Fu family is here; shouldn't you come out to greet them?" Gu Tingyuan came down from upstairs, his tailored suit sharp and his spirits high.

Compared to his earlier sickly appearance, he looked significantly better. Perhaps knowing that his daughter was about to marry into the Fu family filled him with joy.

Even sick, he seemed more vibrant than before.

Chen Huilan and Gu Wenxuan stood up from the sofa and followed Gu Tingyuan outside.

Gu Yicing discreetly trailed behind them.

She had yet to meet Fu Hanning's grandfather, who was said to be a very charming old man. She had always wanted to see him.

The Fu family arrived in two cars.

A black Bentley was followed by a black Maybach.

One car had come from the Fu family's old residence, while the other had come from their mansion.

The two cars stopped almost simultaneously, and the drivers opened the doors.

An elderly man with white hair, leaning on a cane, stepped out. Dressed in a black Tang suit, his wrinkled face radiated a kind smile.

Next, Fu Hanning emerged from the car, his tall frame clad in a tailored black suit that exuded an air of sophistication. His demeanor was cold, and his thin, red lips were pressed tightly together, devoid of warmth.

As he furrowed his brows slightly, his eyes landed on Gu Yicing behind the Gu family. His expression softened for a moment.

Gu Wenxuan, seeing Fu Hanning up close again, shyly bit her lower lip.

"Hello, Grandpa Fu!" Gu Tingyuan and Chen Huilan stepped forward to greet him warmly.

"Tingyuan! It's been years since we last met. Your daughters have all grown into such lovely ladies!" Grandpa Fu nodded with a warm smile.

Fu Hanning kept pace with his grandfather.

"Hello, Grandpa Fu," Gu Wenxuan and Gu Wenshan chorused.

"Good, good, good!" Grandpa Fu smiled broadly.

"And this must be Hanning?" Chen Huilan directed her gaze toward the radiant Fu Hanning.

He exuded a natural commanding presence, ensuring he was the focal point no matter where he went.

"Hello, Uncle and Aunt," Fu Hanning responded succinctly with a nod.

"He truly is a fine young man. Come, come, let's go inside and sit down," Gu Tingyuan urged, inviting Grandpa Fu and Fu Hanning into the living room.

As Fu Hanning passed by Gu Yicing, his gaze lingered on her face for a few seconds.

Gu Yicing rolled her eyes at him and made her way back into the living room.

The two families mingled for a while, exchanging pleasantries and discussing trivial matters. However, they did not get to the main topic of the day.

Suddenly, Gu Yicing stood up from her corner and approached Grandpa Fu, sweetly greeting him, "Hello, Grandpa. I'm Gu Yicing."

"Oh, you must be the third miss?" Grandpa Fu shifted his gaze to Gu Yicing, his eyes filled with pity and regret upon seeing the birthmark on her face.

At just twenty years old, she was indeed quite beautiful, but that birthmark marred her features.

"Yes, Grandpa. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to stand here today. After all, I know I'm not worthy of you, Grandpa Fu. You allowing my father to call me back is not looking down on me. It's the first time anyone has been this kind to me," Gu Yicing lowered her brows and stood beside the old man, deliberately belittling herself.

"Yicing, come sit here. Don't scare the old man," Gu Tingyuan frowned, calling her out coldly, worried that she might spoil his other two daughters' chances.
