As soon as Gu Yining stepped into the grand hall, she kicked off her high heels and bolted upstairs, heels in hand. The suddenness of her actions left the housekeeper, Aunt Chen, and the other servants staring in shock, jaws practically hitting the floor.
Did the young master bring home another woman?
If he's bringing someone else home for the night, what about the young madam?
Fu Hannan followed her closely upstairs. Aunt Chen and the rest greeted him with a respectful bow and a murmured "Young Master," but he seemed not to hear a word, heading straight for the stairs without a glance their way.
Bang… Bang…
Two doors slammed in quick succession—one after the other. The echoes rang through the house.
Each temper tantrum seemed worse than the last.
Aunt Chen frowned, glancing at Li Feng, who had just walked in. "Assistant Li, what's going on here?"
Li Feng stroked his chin thoughtfully, his eyes narrowing in amusement. "It looks like our young master has really fallen deep this time."
Aunt Chen's concern deepened. "And who was that young woman just now? Does the young madam know about this?" she asked, worried for Gu Yining.
Li Feng chuckled, "You mean the one who went upstairs just now? You really didn't recognize her?"
"What do you mean?" Aunt Chen asked, confused.
"That was the young madam! She's just been wearing that ugly makeup all this time to scare people. Did you really think the young master had such… unusual tastes? Society these days is all about appearances."
Li Feng's explanation earned a collective gasp from the staff in the room.
About half an hour later, Li Feng was summoned to the master bedroom.
Fu Hannan, now in a bathrobe, sat by the floor-to-ceiling window, lazily smoking a cigarette. The dim glow from the embers danced in the shadows of the room.
"Tell her to come check my sense of smell," Fu Hannan said coolly, taking another drag from his cigarette. The matter had been delayed long enough, and he wasn't about to let it slide.
"Understood, Young Master. I'll let her know," Li Feng nodded quickly and left to relay the message.
Knocking on the door of the adjacent room, he called out, "Young Madam?"
The door creaked open, revealing Gu Yining in a simple set of pajamas, her half-dry hair cascading down her back. She looked at him, clearly unimpressed. "What is it?"
"The young master wants you to come check his sense of smell."
Gu Yining raised an eyebrow, her expression showing little interest. "Tell him I'm not feeling well today. I'll deal with it tomorrow," she said, turning to close the door.
Li Feng stood there awkwardly, unable to get another word in before the door slammed in his face. Rubbing his sore nose, he sighed and returned to the master bedroom to relay the message. "Young Master, the young madam says she's not feeling well and will check on you tomorrow."
Fu Hannan's eyes narrowed, frustration simmering beneath the surface. He stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray and said icily, "Go tell her I want it done now."
Li Feng's heart skipped a beat at the tone, and he hurried back to Gu Yining's room, knocking once more. "Young Madam, the young master insists he wants the check-up tonight."
This time, Gu Yining didn't even bother to open the door. Her voice came through, cold and unyielding. "Tell him I'm busy. If he keeps pushing, I'll refund the money."
Li Feng was stunned for a moment, realizing the young madam wasn't going to back down. She's the only woman bold enough to stand up to him like this, he thought. With a sigh, he returned to Fu Hannan's room, once again playing the unfortunate messenger.
Fu Hannan's expression darkened even further when he heard Gu Yining's response. His eyes glinted with frustration. "Go tell her that if she refunds, she'll owe me five times the penalty for breaching the contract."
Knowing full well that she'd recently had issues with her contract with Ye Fanxing, a fivefold penalty would undoubtedly be more than she could afford.
Li Feng dutifully relayed the message once again. This time, Gu Yining opened her door with a cold, determined expression, holding a small medical kit. She stepped out of her room and headed into the master bedroom, her face a mask of indifference.
Li Feng finally let out a sigh of relief. At least now they wouldn't drag him into their childish standoff anymore. Being their assistant was a tough job, tougher than he had signed up for.
Gu Yining sat down in front of Fu Hannan, her expression blank as she mechanically opened the medical kit and prepared the necessary tools. Without looking up, she addressed Li Feng, "Tell him to lie down."
"Uh... what?" Li Feng blinked, baffled by her words.
You're sitting right next to him, why are you still making me play messenger? he thought.
Fu Hannan's temper flared at this point. Was this woman seriously treating him as if he were deaf?
