When Gu Yining returned to the classroom, she felt an overwhelming sense of satisfaction, as though she had just exacted her revenge. Her steps carried a renewed confidence, almost as if the air itself had shifted around her.
Mu Zuocheng, as usual, had saved a seat for her and waved, signaling her to come over.
The whole reason Zhao Yanyan had become jealous and spiteful towards her was due to her perceived relationship with Mu Zuocheng. To avoid further complications, Gu Yining deliberately ignored him and walked toward the front row, sitting down with quiet determination, ready to focus on class.
Mu Zuocheng's hand froze mid-air, and his smile faltered, replaced by a look of disappointment. He probably thought she had been lectured at home—perhaps by that old man, Fu Hannan—who might have warned her to keep her distance from him.
He sighed as he watched her rigid posture from behind. He had finally found a girl he liked, but it seemed she was already spoken for.
Should he give up?
But deep down, he knew he didn't want to.
The morning classes passed by quickly. As soon as they ended, Yang Qin rushed over to Gu Yining, blocking her path. "Your sister's looking for you. She's waiting at the entrance of the teaching building. She has something to ask you."
"If she wants to ask me something, why doesn't she come here herself? Sending a lapdog instead, who does she think she is?" Gu Yining said coldly, gathering her books and standing up.
Fuming from the insult, Yang Qin grabbed her arm. "Gu Yining, what's your problem? You just called me a lapdog! You're the dog! Your whole family is full of dogs!"
"You were the one who took pictures of me and sent them to Gu Wenxuan, weren't you? You've earned your title as a lapdog quite thoroughly. Oh, and by the way, when you cursed out my family, doesn't that include Gu Wenxuan too? I'll be sure to report this little conversation to her when I see her."
With her chin held high, Gu Yining marched away, her tone laced with arrogance.
Yang Qin, enraged, chased after her. "Stop! You wouldn't dare say a word to Wenxuan!"
"You don't scare me, lapdog. And I won't forget about the photos. If you try something like that again, your indecent pictures might just get shared with the whole school in the most scandalous way possible."
Having delivered her threat, Gu Yining descended the stairs, leaving Yang Qin standing there, trembling with fury.
Gu Yining had changed—becoming ruthless and terrifying. Yang Qin found herself reconsidering her alliance with Gu Wenxuan. Maybe teaming up against Gu Yining wasn't the safest move anymore. Neither of the Gu sisters were people she could afford to cross.
At the bottom of the stairs, Gu Wenxuan stood in the shade of a tree, holding a parasol. She wore an all-white dress, exuding an innocent, almost saint-like aura.
As Gu Yining approached her, her face remained as cold as ice.
"Speak quickly, or let it out if you've got gas," Gu Yining snapped, her tone sharp and unyielding.
"Do you really have to talk to me like that? I'm your sister," Gu Wenxuan said, struggling to keep her anger in check.
"I've already severed all family ties. Do you seriously think I'd still call you my sister?" Gu Yining smirked with disdain, her lips curling into a mocking smile. The domineering aura she exuded made it clear she didn't care about anyone's opinions.
"Fine, whatever," Gu Wenxuan huffed. "I didn't come here to argue with you. Since you're married to Fu Hannan, don't you care about what he's been up to lately?"
"What's there to care about? He's busy making money to support me. Why should I bother managing his business?" Gu Yining laughed, already guessing what Gu Wenxuan was about to bring up—the rumor about Fu Hannan supposedly keeping a college boy as his lover.
How ironic. That "boy" was actually her in disguise. Any attempt at stirring trouble would be doomed to fail.
She could barely suppress the glee rising within her.
Gu Wenxuan's expression darkened as she continued, trying to maintain her composure. "He's gay, Yining. He's been seeing some young boy—just a freshman. Did you know about that?"
Her voice was laced with false concern, as if she were breaking the news out of kindness.
