Chapter 11 Orochi Lu

On this day, Dave realized a problem... He was broke.

His old father, Tobirama, had completely cut off Dave's financial resources, afraid that Dave would spend the money on that evil Uchiha girl.

"Uncle Madara... I have no money... My stingy father won't give me any," Dave had no choice but to go to Uncle Madara, practically begging.

"How much?" Uncle Madara asked calmly.

"Um... five hundred thousand taels?" Dave scratched his head in embarrassment, cautiously replying.

"No problem." Uncle Madara looked disdainful, as if Dave were asking for a mere trifle.

"Uncle Madara, you're amazing! Mua!" Dave was overjoyed, took the money, and jumped up to kiss Madara.

"If he doesn't give you money in the future, come to me. The Uchiha clan still has the means," Madara replied, her words full of contempt for Tobirama.

As the second leader of the Senju clan, why wouldn't Tobirama give Dave this small amount of money? Save it for New Year's?

"Hey! Thank you, Uncle Madara! I'll give you a surprise in two days!" Dave grabbed the money and jumped away. Madara just watched him leave silently.

Of course, Dave wasn't taking the money for personal use. He was taking money to make more money.

After all, he had been a math major in college in his previous life. In his view, Konoha was a bit too lifeless and could use some vitality... Hehehe...

"Brother Snake! You home?" Dave walked to the civilian area, knocking on the door of a house.

This was someone Dave had met two days ago, Orochi Roku, a sixteen-year-old with no ninja skills but a knack for research. Dave had discovered him by accident a few days earlier.

Coincidentally, Orochi Roku had just gotten married to a commoner girl when he came of age.

Dave had met him when he was running late for his own wedding, and, being the concerned citizen he was, Dave had helped him deliver something important to the wedding venue in time. That's how they got to know each other.

As for how he made the delivery... well... let's not go into details...

When Dave heard the surname "Orochi" at the wedding, he became more intrigued. In the original story, the scientist Orochimaru had been a commoner as a child.

Orochimaru was probably this guy's father.

Moreover, after chatting with him at the wedding, Dave realized this young man loved research. It confirmed Dave's suspicions: this guy was Aunt Snake's father.

"Dave? What are you doing here?" Orochi Roku, a young man with messy hair and fair skin, though not quite like the Orochimaru from the original, asked.

"Hey, Mr. Dave is here! Please, come in." A brown-haired woman with two streaks of paint on her face smiled from behind Orochi.

"Hello, Sister Liushan Yu—or should I say Sister Orochimasa," Dave chuckled as he walked inside.

This woman was Orochi Roku's wife, Liushan Yu, though something about her felt oddly familiar to Dave...

"You two chat. I'll go wash some fruit for you," Yu said with a shy smile, leaving the two men alone.

"So, Brother Snake, what have you been up to lately?" Dave asked.

"Farming during the day, doing some research at night. It's not bad," Orochi replied, though his eyes held a hint of resentment toward Dave.

Orochi wasn't a ninja, but his family owned some land in the village, which gave them a decent living among the common folk.

"Ahem, Brother Snake, no need to look at me like that... I just helped you deliver something with a slingshot. No reason to stare at me..." Dave coughed awkwardly.

"You have some nerve! Do you even know what I had to do that night because of you?" Orochi's pale face turned red, and he choked on his words.

"Oh, oh, I get it, I get it," Dave gave him a knowing look, one that every man would understand.

"You jerk!" Orochi tackled Dave, playfully beating him up.

"Alright, enough kidding around. Brother Snake, I need your help with something. I know you like studying organisms, metals, and the like. You must know the properties of many metals. I'm good at calculations, so I can help you with a lot of things. Don't worry about funding—that's my part."

After some idle chatter, Dave finally got to the point.

"But... I still have land to tend to, and it's almost harvest time," Orochi was clearly tempted but worried about the responsibilities of his family's fields. Without the harvest, they wouldn't have income for the rest of the year.

"Oh, don't worry. Sister Yu can handle that. I heard she was the flower of the field before? Why did she fall for you, Brother Snake?" Dave teased, raising an eyebrow.

"You!" Orochi glared at Dave, offended. "What do you mean by that? Am I not worthy?"

"Hahaha, alright, alright, just joking. But seriously, Brother Snake, I'm not going to exploit you. As long as we succeed in this project, I'll give you 15% of the profits! Plus, until the research is complete, I'll pay you 20,000 silver coins every month. How does that sound?"

Orochi didn't hesitate. "Deal!"

With 20,000 silver taels a month, they'd make more than they did with two yearly harvests.

"Great! By the way, do you have any spare space? I don't have a lab or anything."

"...We have three granaries on the farm, but one is unused. You can use that," Orochi offered, though he felt like he might be getting exploited.

"Perfect! I'll leave the purchasing, research, and transportation to you. I'll provide the money, you handle the work and space. Sound good? Sister Yu! No need to wash the fruit, I'm heading out! Brother Snake, I know I'm not the type to exploit labor. Just call me Lei Feng!"

With that, Dave jumped up and bolted out the door.

Orochi could only watch, his eyelid twitching in frustration.
