He finished speaking, released her hand, and turned to leave. Cynthia didn't expect him to act this way. She stood there in a daze, watching him grab his coat and walk toward the entrance.

Olive, standing nearby, grew anxious and pouted, calling out unhappily,

"Daddy, Daddy—"

Albert didn't look back. He walked with his back straight, while Olive continued complaining behind him.

"Mommy, why is Daddy leaving without eating? He'll get a stomach ache if he doesn't eat…"

Olive's words softened something inside Albert. He still didn't turn around, but inside, he was silently counting:

"One, two, three—"

He didn't believe she could be that heartless. He was gambling, betting on whether she still had any feelings left for him.
