Chapter 91: Legends Under the Sea

The eel slices of Naga don't have as strong a taste as real fish scales. There is only a faint and indescribable fishy smell. If you don't identify it carefully, it will feel like the somewhat salty and humid smell of the sea.

Naga are not monsters that originally lived at the bottom of the sea. Their ancestors, like the elves of Quel'Thalas, were all upper-class elf nobles of the ancient Kaldorei Empire. Even their status was much higher than that of the ancestors of the Sunstrider family of Silvermoon City.

They were the most loyal followers of Queen Azshara of the ancient Kaldorei Empire. In the end times, these guards and close officials surrounded Azshara until the last moment when the imperial capital Zin-Azshari collapsed and sank into the sea along with most of the city.

For revenge and to rebuild the empire, the queen signed a contract with the ancient evil god N'Zoth and transformed into the dark servant of the evil god. Her followers, like her, were reborn, and the Naga race was thus born.

However, most of the Naga groups today are no longer the upper-class elves who followed Azshara ten thousand years ago. Instead, they are newly hatched from the incubation nests of the Naga's undersea empire.

These later-born Naga have a much lower status than the nobles who went into the sea with the queen at the beginning. They are not valued in life or death and are not much different from a group of water monsters that are driven and enslaved.

But there is no doubt that their blood comes from those original upper-class elves. They have their magical talents and minds, so one can also feel many elf characteristics on them. Jess opened the bag and smelled the unique smell on the Naga scales again.

For some reason, he felt a bit addicted to this fishy smell. Obviously, it's not a pleasant fragrance...

In all coastal and island areas, there are legends of mermaids. Seafarers, fishermen, or sailors will encounter solitary mermaids by the sea or even in the sea. Attracted by their beauty, they will fall in love and even have a relationship. Many people who have encountered mermaids disappear. Even if they return to shore, they will be haunted by the charming women they met.

All these legends are about men encountering female mermaids. There has never been a case of a woman encountering a handsome male mermaid. Why?

That's because there are no mermaids at all. All those people they encountered were Naga. And the heads of male Naga are as terrifying as those of crocodiles or lizards. It is estimated that they are not attractive to women on shore.

After all, male Naga were originally created as war machines for the queen or other high-level female sea monsters.

And the reason why sailors are attracted by mermaids is likely because they are bewitched by this unique smell.

Even though Jess clearly knows what he has encountered and has even killed that female Naga, when he smells her smell again, there is still an inexplicable primitive impulse.

The real Azeroth is really a world full of desires and killings. Jess took a deep breath at last and then tightened the bag. Speaking of that veteran at the post station, is his so-called wife this Naga?

A poor soldier was attracted by a mermaid by the sea and mistakenly thought he had found true love and regarded her as the person to accompany him for the rest of his life?

Should he ask him when he goes back?

Having been lured and almost lost his life, Jess was indeed quite unhappy.

But going into the barracks to find trouble with a soldier? This matter still needs to be carefully considered.

Now, the only bottle of Shadow Protection Potion he brought has been drunk. Jess doesn't plan to go and cause trouble with the murlocs anymore. If he really encounters a murloc warlock who can use shadow magic, wouldn't he be in a terrible situation?

Moreover, among the murlocs, there are all kinds of mages, elementalists, shadow mages, water mages, etc. Although they are not powerful, they are full of tricks.

To be honest, after being shocked by that orc shaman last time, Jess has already had some psychological shadows. Without preparation, he doesn't plan to take risks. It's already not easy for him to survive from this Naga.

If Ursula asks when he goes back, he can only say that he found nothing and was almost killed by the murlocs. Or he can just hand in a Naga scale to complete the task. Ask her if Naga scales are valuable. Alchemists might be quite interested in such scales.

As for this string of beads... Jess picked up the bead string and looked at it. He felt that this was just an ordinary string of pearls and didn't seem to be able to sell for a high price by the sea.

"Hey, Thael'no."

"Master!"

"Can you see if there is any special enchantment in this bead, such as enhancing one's mana or increasing spell attacks?"

"Not at all, master."

Jess put the pearl string on his wrist. It was cool and quite comfortable.

If it can't sell for a high price, he doesn't plan to sell it. This is proof that he single-handedly defeated a Naga sea witch.

Naga sea witch...

In fact, thinking about the great battle last night, Jess still has some lingering fears.

This is probably the first time he has faced such a strong opponent alone. Without Gerred or the imp. If that house doesn't count as help.

But without that house, he might have died a miserable death.

Those corridors, those narrow passages and rooms helped him defeat that several-meter-long female monster.

After he packed up the Naga's scales and claws, those four lizard-like claws, Jess walked back in the original direction towards Fabron Farm, away from the burning house. On the way, he was tracked by several wild boars in turn for several hours.

He didn't know if they smelled the Naga scales or had some other plans.

Although they were just a few animals, Jess only had a stick and a rusty knife. When cutting the Naga's tail or neck, this knife even had a notch.

He believed that the bones of Bloodfang wild boars should be stronger than those of that Naga wizard. If a wild boar was determined to come and fight him desperately, it would be really difficult to ensure that he wouldn't be injured.

Fortunately, in the end, no wild boar really charged up. These few hours passed without any real danger.

Riordor Fabron had told him that there were still several empty farms on the way to the mine cave to the west. Jess planned to go there and take a look and find an empty farm to spend the latter half of the night.

He also considered returning to Fabron, but as he was chased by wild boars, he walked farther and farther. He also didn't want to lead the wild boars to someone else's house. Although Fabron said he had a gun and so on, Jess still had some doubts about his combat effectiveness.

So he spent two more hours walking further west. When he saw another deserted farm from a distance and the wild boars gave up following him, he stopped.

Walking into the empty granary, after making sure there was no danger inside, he put the package on the ground.

"Thael'no, I want to sleep. If there is anything alive, including anything dead. As long as it's anything that can move... If it wants to approach this farm, wake me up. Hide beside me and listen carefully. You don't need to sleep. Just protect me. Understood?"

"Yes, master. I will definitely follow the order!" The imp shouted excitedly and then ran around Jess in a circle. Finally, he stopped by the door and leaned against the wall, secretly peeking outside.

Jess sat in the corner and looked at the imp at the door.

He found that he had already trusted this demon very much. Whether it was asking him to do things or protecting himself. At first, he was always worried that this guy would suddenly stab him in the back or something. Because he always emphasized that if the master died, he would be free.

"So, Thael'no." He suddenly asked curiously: "If I ask you to attack me, will you also listen to the order and hurt me?"

"That's right!" Thael'no answered decisively: "Because of the contract, master. An imp cannot violate the signed contract!"

Although he wasn't quite sure what the contract specifically referred to, such as a piece of magic-made paper or a rune engraved in the mind. But Jess guessed that it should have a certain relationship with that summoning spell.

"So what will happen if you violate the contract?"

"The contract signed with the summoner cannot be violated, master! I am a low-level demon!" Thael'no laughed twice and said: "If I have to say, it's like the master can't fly into the sky! And the master is good to me, and I don't want to violate it either!"

So this demon is a bit grateful to him?

Jess thought for a while and remembered what Galdus said. Imps also have their own tempers and personalities, and they also have likes and dislikes. So try not to change your summoned creatures randomly. Unpredictable things will happen.

Jess could probably understand that these summoned demons might create chaos by misinterpreting the master's orders. So far, Thael'no hasn't done this. Perhaps, as he said, he is just a low-level demon, so he doesn't have the conditions or abilities.

However, to be good to this demon? Who knows when this little demon will suddenly die?

Some people say that don't give a name to the animal you raise. Once you give it a name, it will be difficult for it to be just a simple animal anymore. Instead, it will be your partner or family. When the day comes when you must slaughter it, you will definitely be hurt.

Jess quite agrees with this point. He doesn't want to establish any complicated bonds with this imp. If this little demon is suddenly crushed to death by some unexpected attack one day, does he still have to hold a funeral for it?

Just like that Naga in the first half of the night. If he hadn't made him phase shift before the banishment spell, he might have died on the spot.

Judging from Thael'no's reaction to the Naga's banishment spell, the banishment spell in the real world is definitely not as simple as a hard control for dozens of seconds. It may mean a real "banishment", that is, sending a summoned creature back to where it came from.

For demons, that is the Twisting Nether. For demons in Azeroth, it is no different from death. Before dying, do you still need your order to protect yourself? Jess felt that he was about to sympathize with a demon. So he simply lay down on the ground and fell into a deep sleep.
