Chapter 103: The Value of the Weakness Curse

In the evening, Jess came to the door of Surenna Keldon's house. After listening for a while and making sure there were no strange sounds inside, he knocked on the door.

"Who's outside?" It was Surenna's voice.

"Jess Setho." Jess said. "Remember me?"

Bang!

The door was suddenly pushed open, and Jess was almost hit on the nose by the door.

Surenna stared with wide eyes and blurted out, "You brat!"

Jess said, "I'm not here to quarrel with you, Surenna. Where does Gakin live?"

Surenna's face twisted in anger. "That day you came to my place and made Gakin look bad. Since then, he's been taking it out on me every day! It's all because of you, kid. I have nothing to say to you."

"What does this have to do with me?" Jess felt completely baffled. "I don't want to bother with your messy business. I want to find Gakin. This concerns the interests of our entire group. You'd better answer me truthfully. Otherwise, if we're delayed in learning new magic. Next time I see Gakin, I'll tell him that you blocked my way. You know how obsessed Gakin is with magic. He took it out on you because he lost face. If you block me from telling him the clue to new magic, he won't beat you anymore."

"You arrogant little brat." Surenna raised her hand as if to hit him, but Jess grabbed it.

"Tell me where Gakin lives! It's such a simple question. How long are you going to act up?"

After being grabbed, Surenna was stunned for a while. She realized that Jess's strength was far beyond what she, a female warlock who hadn't trained her body much, could match. She immediately lost her temper.

"He... lives two streets away, opposite the leather goods store. In the black-tiled house. The first door in the corridor on the first floor."

Jess threw her hand away and trotted down the stairs.

According to the address Surenna gave, Jess came to the black-roofed house. There was a light on on the first floor. As he passed by the window, he heard two men inside arguing. One of them was Gakin.

"I don't understand. Don't you trust me?"

"I don't distrust you." Gakin's voice said. "The main problem now is that your comprehension of spells is limited, Erlan. You can't be impatient. You need to be patient..."

The other person is Erlan? Why is Erlan at Gakin's house so late? To be honest, Jess had never heard Erlan's tone so serious before. So he didn't recognize the owner of the voice immediately.

Erlan's voice said angrily, "Obviously, there are problems with all the spells you taught, Gakin."

"So what's the problem, Erlan? I don't understand why you always doubt this and that." Gakin's voice was extremely helpless, even a bit forbearing.

Jess walked up the stairs, entered the corridor, and approached the door of the room where the two people were located by following the sound.

Erlan said aggressively, "You're deceiving us. Deceiving this group to work for you. Ursula, me, Surenna, and that new kid. Do you think we're all your little followers?"

"We are friends..." Gakin said.

Erlan rudely interrupted him. "Stop spouting nice words here. You and Galdes use us to collect magic-related supplies and money everywhere. In the end, you use some fake spells to deceive us. Don't you think I know? Surenna has been practicing a pain curse for several months, but the effect is extremely poor. To me, it's not as good as just stabbing randomly. What kind of crappy magic is this? Don't you think I haven't seen what real magic looks like? I'm from the Brotherhood. I'm not some farm boy or bricklayer who pops up from nowhere. Do you look down on me and deceive me like a fool?"

Gakin's voice was extremely calm. "If you want to learn some real magic, you can go to the Wizard's Sanctum next door."

"Do you know how the Wizard's Sanctum recruits students? Are you making fun of me here?" Erlan was really激怒 this time.

"I've never..."

There was a chaotic commotion inside the door. Gakin's words were abruptly swallowed back.

"Let go!" Jess heard a muffled sound inside. Then there was a clattering noise. Gakin was very likely beaten.

He knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" Gakin asked.

"Jess, Jess Setho."

"Ah... Jess, come in. Just push the door."

Jess pushed the door and entered. Just as he saw Gakin getting up from the ground, Erlan glared angrily at this side.

"Erlan, you're also here."

"Jess." Erlan nodded, coughed, stood up straight, and straightened his shirt.

Gakin touched the corner of his mouth to make sure there was no bleeding. He sat down leaning against the table and asked, "What's the matter?"

"When is our next gathering, Gakin?" Jess asked.

"What day is today?"

"The 15th."

"This Sunday, the 20th." Gakin said. "We will have a gathering this Sunday. Everyone must be present. I have notified Ursula Drin and Galdes. Now Mr. Erlan also knows." He looked at Erlan again and said, "You can go and notify Surenna for me."

Erlan didn't say anything. He looked at Jess, then at Gakin, and finally fixed his gaze on Jess and said, "You heard us talking outside, right? You came in intending to save this liar."

"Erlan, don't bring him in." Gakin said helplessly. "What exactly do you want to do to trust me? The more impatient you are, the less likely you are to master magic."

Erlan completely ignored Gakin's words. He stared at Jess and said, "Has this damn guy taught you any spells? Under the guise of sharing and win-win, he taught you some completely useless spells. Then he makes you give him money, treasures, and things you risked your life to snatch from gnolls or bandits. Telling you that as long as you practice this spell, it will be useful. Is that right?"

"He taught me some summoning spells, some... pain curses. None of them work. No matter how many times I practice, there is no effect. He also told me that dark magic can accept all those who are willing to embark on the path of dark art. Am I not a person?"

"If you have mastered any spells." Gakin said. "You don't have to take risks to collect those things either, Erlan. Our group needs to survive. So we need a certain source of income. Just like Ursula can help us make potions. Galdes can use his talent to organize our spell collection. And he himself is also from a wealthy family and can provide some membership fees. You are the same. Although you have a hard time learning magic, you have your own connections, your own strength, and you can also contribute some..."

"Damn you." Erlan pointed at Gakin's nose and asked, "Then tell me, what has Surenna contributed?"

Gakin was at a loss for words for a moment. Looking at his expression, Erlan became more and more smug.

He sneered and then asked and answered himself, "Forget it. We both know."

Jess thought to himself that if it were him, he definitely couldn't tolerate it.

But Gakin endured it. He wiped the blood on his lips and said, "You should go back."

"You really take me for a fool." Erlan said. "Two gold coins. Take them out and I'll quit. From now on, we have nothing to do with each other anymore. I won't come to you again. How about it?"

"I don't have that much money, Erlan. Be more patient." Gakin said. "I will teach you seriously and help you find a suitable way to learn shadow magic. You have to trust me."

"I don't believe a word." Erlan grabbed his collar and lifted him up from the chair and said, "I think I've been very patient, Gakin."

"Erlan." Jess suddenly said. "Calm down. Don't do anything..."

Erlan gave a contemptuous laugh and asked, "Why? Are you his illegitimate child or something? What benefits did he give you that you defend him like this?"

He threw Gakin on the chair and turned to look this way. He clenched his fist, and there was a cracking sound between the joints.

"This has nothing to do with me." Jess said. "I'm just being kind and don't want you two to make it too..." Erlan spat and walked over here. The corner of his mouth was already crooked because of anger.

Jess knew that he would be used as a punching bag in the next second.

"Alina..."

Just as he started to recite the spell, Erlan's reaction was extremely fast. He reached out and pressed against Jess's foot and suddenly pushed him against the wall!

"What kind of spell is this? Did he teach you?"!

Jess didn't answer. Instead, he hit Erlan's arm hard with his fist. This punch was extremely heavy. Even Erlan was caught off guard and cried out in pain.

As soon as he let go, Jess quickly recited the entire weakness curse!

Erlan still wanted to hit back, but suddenly frowned. His legs went weak and he staggered backward. With great difficulty, he held onto the bookcase and didn't lie down directly.

He looked at his feet in disbelief, then at Gakin. However, Gakin's expression also froze.

Jess could feel Gakin's shock. He could also feel that he was suppressing his emotions and not showing them.

"What kind of cowardly spell is this?" Erlan groaned and tried hard to get up. But slowly, his arms became powerless. After finally standing up again, it was not very convenient for him to walk.

"What did you do to me..." He gritted his teeth and spat out these words with difficulty. Then he weakly swung his fist at Jess. Jess just stepped aside and let him fall to the ground.

After the strong Erlan fell down, he whimpered on the ground for a while. After trying several times to prop himself up with his arms, he barely managed to get up again by leaning against the wall.

"Give us a little more time, Erlan." Gakin said with his head down. "If there is still no improvement in the end, give me some time to save money to compensate you. Although it may not be as much as two gold coins, but I haven't forgotten your contribution to this group during our time together."

Erlan nodded with a sallow complexion. Before long, he vomited out of the window. After retching for a long time, he turned back.

He glanced at Jess, then at Gakin. He didn't know what he mumbled a few words. Then he pushed the door and ran out.

"You didn't come just to ask about the gathering time, Jess. What are you going to exchange for this spell?" Gakin asked in a low voice.

Jess said, "Tell me what you have first."
