Finally, the day of departure has arrived.
Jess asked the imp to keep an eye on his pocket watch and wake him up at five o'clock. However, he woke up before four. After all, he went to bed early the day before, and today he has something very important to do. He simply can't sleep in or anything like that.
He went out with his packed luggage. He checked again and again to make sure the door was locked properly. Before leaving, he woke up his landlord and reminded him again to take good care of his small rented house and not rent out the house privately before the rent expired. Then he headed for the port.
It's getting later and later for dawn. At five o'clock, the sky is still like blue fountain pen ink. There is no one on the street except for the sleepy guards on duty.
But when he arrived at the dock, everything was completely different.
Even though it was just dawn, the port of Stormwind was already extremely crowded. No wonder when the Alliance was preparing to launch the northern expedition later, the port needed to be expanded.
Of course, it's probably also because Winter Veil is approaching.
Isn't Jess, who rarely comes to the port to do business usually, also participating in the activity of crowding the port at this time?
Unlike the uniform Stormwind accent on the streets usually, the port is full of humans with various accents from all over. Most of them have a Lordaeron accent, and there are even some from Kul Tiras.
Unlike the game map, Kul Tiras is actually closer to Stormwind than Lordaeron. The island where it is located is in the sea area outside the Baladin Bay. It only takes about a week to sail from here to Boralus Port.
Even so, he rarely sees people from Kul Tiras. This time, he saw several Kul Tiras soldiers wearing green clothes with a golden anchor emblem on their shoulders. These people are tall and broad-shouldered like a group of hyenas, chatting loudly in almost incomprehensible Common.
There are some large ships hovering outside the port. It seems that the dock is almost full and they can't enter. The dock administrator seems to be urging the sailors to set sail quickly to make room for the later ships.
As Jess walked through the crowd, he looked out at the so-called "Great Conqueror of Baladin" on the port. According to Gerred, this ship is relatively large and should be very conspicuous.
While looking into the distance, he ignored what was nearby. Jess was accidentally tripped by something slippery and almost fell. Looking down, it seemed that he had just stepped on and killed a sea fish. Some middle-aged man somewhere was cursing, but the crowd quickly blocked Jess's view and he didn't know where the voice was coming from at all.
When he was checking if there was any damage to his shoes, a strong hand suddenly grabbed his cloak...
"Damn!"
Jess grabbed the hood at the back of his neck. He almost thought there was a thief trying to steal the most expensive thing on him. But when he turned around, it was actually Gerred. "Hey, kid, are you lost?"
Gerred was wearing a dark brown leather coat. His arms, wrists, and waist were all fastened with thick metal chains.
He also wore a light greenish-yellow headband on his head to hold back his deep brown, almost black hair, and tied it into a ponytail at the back.
Jess had never seen him wear such clothes before. It was different from his previous style and even from all the dwarves in Stormwind.
At this moment, he almost didn't recognize him.
Seeing Jess staring at him in surprise, Gerred said, "Isn't it very beautiful? This is the clothes I brought out from Aerie Peak, Jess. Although I left the knights, they didn't take this clothes back. I will wear this Wildhammer battle dress and return to Hinterlands to remind them of my existence."
"It's indeed very recognizable." Jess nodded.
"Follow me." Gerred said: "That so-called Baladin is over there. It's not far from here."
He was right. The "Great Conqueror of Baladin" was docked in a small fjord at the northernmost part of the port. This was indeed a large dark brown ship. The ship's name was written in the ancient runic script and engraved on the bow like some kind of magic rune.
When Gerred and Jess arrived here, several burly dockworkers were carrying a large box covered with cloth and ropes and stepping onto the ship step by step on a wooden board. What actually attracted Jess more than this box was the little thing yelling below - a goblin.
Without exaggeration, this was the first time he had seen a goblin at such a close distance. The appearance of this little monster immediately gave the entire plain medieval-style dilapidated dock a fantasy feel.
"Damn it!" The goblin pointed at these panting workers and shouted in very fluent Common: "If your king didn't forbid ogres from entering the city, would I spend money to hire you bunch of useless people? If you dare to damage the guests' things, you'll be dead. The laws of Stormwind don't explicitly say that trolls can't come in! Trolls are not only stronger than you pink-skinned monsters, but they are also never picky eaters."
The goblin is about a little shorter than a gnome, but the proportion of his head seems even more exaggerated, mainly because of his long ears sticking up high at the back and his extremely exaggerated fluffy red hair.
His whole green skin is very rough and dry. His pair of dark yellow eyes are constantly moving around restlessly, looking here and there. When he talks, his mouth is full of sticky saliva. His skinny limbs move like a frightened mouse.
"Hurry up! Hurry up! Hurry up! Didn't you hear that bald guy urging? We have to leave within two hours. Now the guests' luggage hasn't been loaded yet. I'm really fed up with you big idiots."
However, as soon as Jess and Gerred approached, they saw the goblin glance at the Wildhammer dwarf and then cough unnaturally.
"Ah, are you two guests of the 'Great Conqueror of Baladin'?" The goblin smiled and his eyes were squeezed out by the green wrinkles on his face. "As long as you report your names, you can board the ship. We guarantee that we can leave within two hours and won't leave any important guest's luggage behind. Our service quality is known to everyone from Booty Bay to Wintergarde Keep!"
"Jess Setho."
"Oh, let me see. Mr. Jess Setho, welcome!!"
"Gerred."
"Gerred... what?"
"Just Gerred. What else?"
The goblin scratched his head and said: "Gerred is not a rare dwarf name, this Mr. Gerred. You must provide your family name. Otherwise, if I let you pass without checking properly, I can't take the responsibility!"
Gerred frowned and said: "Thunderfist, Gerred Thunderfist."
"Lord Gerred of the Thunderfist family is right here!" The goblin pointed to the roster in his hand and said: "I'm Gazik, the first mate of this ship. I'm in charge of all the crappy things the captain is too lazy to deal with. We still have half a month to get along. Nice to meet you two! Please board the ship quickly!"
The two followed a group of workers carrying the large box and boarded the ship one after another. Jess saw that the goblin's face, which was smiling just now, suddenly darkened and he continued to curse at those workers. He looked at Gerred who was walking with his head down and asked: "Even I know the Thunderfist family of Aerie Peak. If it weren't for this trip, I would never have heard you mention it."
"There's nothing to mention." Gerred stood on the deck and looked around and said: "No matter how famous a family name is, when you have hundreds of clansmen all over the world, it won't be famous anymore. Especially when you are the most useless one among this large group of inexplicable clansmen brothers."
