Chapter 143: Unforgivable

"It's back again!"

Cries with sobs rang out from nowhere, followed by fearful cries coming from another street.

Gerred pulled Jess and said, "Don't just stand there. Run! Find a place to hide!"

The two of them grabbed the little girl and rushed into a stone house and a still-unburned alley behind the wall. A huge black shadow swept over their heads. Two or three helpless purple magic missiles followed it.

There were a series of explosions in the distance, and then there was another commotion of shouts. The curses and roars of the soldiers could be heard clearly even from several streets away.

"What the hell does this damn beast want? Does it want to completely destroy this town?! It's so arrogant!" Gerred cursed.

"Stay here and hide, kid. Don't go out! Wait until that monster leaves before looking for your parents!"

The child nodded. After Jess finished speaking, he followed Gerred and ran out of the alley. They saw the huge shadow turn in mid-air and fly to the other side of the town hall. The strong wind it created instantly extinguished a lot of the nearby flames and made Jess and Gerred almost unable to stand steadily.

What kind of dragon is this... an adult dragon or a young dragon?

Jess had no concept of the appearance of dragons in the real Azeroth. Considering that the appearance of griffins is more like that in mythological legends than in the game, then dragons may not be so cartoonish.

Just from the general impression in the game and looking at that back just now, it seemed like a young dragon no matter what.

But how could a young dragon cause so much destruction? If it's a young dragon... shouldn't it be a group of miscellaneous soldiers?

He realized that this wasn't the first time he had made the mistake of applying game settings to the real world. He must correct his perception as soon as possible and not judge these comparisons preconceivedly.

The direction where the dragon went was blocked by houses. He looked around. A man on fire jumped into the sea while screaming. Another person fell by the dock before he could jump into the sea. Several figures rushed up to help him put out the fire, but they couldn't extinguish the raging flames no matter what.

There was a disgusting stench in the air. Jess felt more and more nauseous. He couldn't tell if this was physical pain caused by emotional stress or if this strange smell was really unbearable.

He vaguely felt that this was the power of shadow. And a dragon race that can use shadow energy.

The town was in chaos. Most of the soldiers didn't have long-range weapons. They could either stare blankly on the ground or had already joined the work of firefighting and rescuing people.

The bell on top of the town hall was still ringing continuously. A knight of Lordaeron pulled the reins and tried to keep his panicked horse as steady as possible at the street entrance. Several times he was almost thrown to the ground by the horse.

He shouted loudly, "We need mages, we need all warriors with combat capabilities... archers, hunters, no matter what! Reinforcements are coming soon!"

Several mages ran over from that side of the street. Their originally shiny robes were full of dust and their faces were also covered with soot.

Jess knew that they not only had to hunt down that dragon but also help the suffering civilians in the town. They couldn't use too much mana on displacement magic like Blink as in the game. They could only chase on foot. Under such circumstances, their role was really limited.

At this moment, a sharp whistle suddenly sounded in the sky.

Hearing this whistle, Gerred suddenly looked up.

"It's them... it's my brothers!"

Before Jess could even figure out what Gerred's brothers referred to, a extremely fast shadow rushed into the air above the street from the pine forest in the distance!

It was a smaller griffin, but it was extremely fast. The rider on it couldn't be seen clearly, but the electric light in his hand stretched extremely far in the smoky air...

A griffin rider!

Gerred roared in Dwarvish. The knight in the sky seemed to have heard his roar and responded with a similar sentence and laughed loudly. The sound suddenly became closer and then gradually disappeared as the griffin flew away. He chased after the shadow of that dragon!

Gerred was so excited that he almost exploded. He wished he could find a rocket on the spot and send himself into the sky to join the battle. However, Jess felt a tightness in his heart.

Could the griffin rider defeat that dragon?

Where were his teammates? Why was there only this one rider?

Jess looked in other directions and didn't see any other griffins.

He didn't have time to think about anything else. Gerred had already chased in the direction where the griffin rider left. He had to follow.

After bypassing several houses, a whistling wind suddenly swept over their heads. Jess looked up and saw that dragon fly over their heads. Immediately after that was the shadow of the griffin. The two were engaged in a pursuit battle over Southshore!

The two found an open area again and saw that dragon fly straight up into the sky. The shadow quickly shrank. The griffin was faster and its shadow was more flexible. It chased straight up.

Gerred shouted himself hoarse, as if he wanted to add some kind of battle cry buff to that griffin rider. But soon the two things became indistinguishable in the high altitude.

Suddenly, there was a flash of electric light. Undoubtedly, that was the griffin rider attacking!

Many soldiers of Southshore looked up to watch the battle and cheered for the griffin rider. Slogans like "For the Alliance" were endless. Some people even climbed onto the roof and roared.

A dragon roar exploded in the sky. Gerred laughed and said, "He can't hold on anymore. That evil dragon is going to flee!"

Hearing what Gerred said, Jess's originally suspended heart was slightly relieved. After a while, the dragon's shadow suddenly appeared and quickly enlarged. Its wings suddenly folded, obviously diving down towards this side.

The townspeople who were still cheering instantly fell silent when they saw this scene. The cheers and shouts instantly turned into screams. People jumped off buildings and scattered. The two of them also had to cover their heads and run.

When that dragon approached the ground, Jess finally saw its appearance... dark brown scales, blood-red to purple wing membranes. This was not a red dragon. This was indeed a black dragon!

When everyone was preparing for being sprayed with flames by the black dragon, they realized that the black dragon's target was not the crowd at all!

When it dived close to the ground, it suddenly pulled up and turned around. The figure of the griffin behind it also suddenly appeared!

Damn it... This dragon is going to counterattack!

Just when Jess's heart was aching with worry, a dazzling bolt of lightning suddenly flew out from the griffin. It spun and chased after the black dragon that was ascending. It accurately hit its left wing. A series of electric currents continuously bombarded and penetrated its wing and chest!

However, the black dragon screamed in pain but suddenly spewed out a large area of blood-red flames!

No...

The griffin rider's oblique dive speed was really too fast... He couldn't stop and rushed straight into the flames. Then he flew out from the other side of this dark red area with a cloud of black smoke and directly fell into a residential area, raising a large amount of dust and rubble.

The black dragon screeched and tried to fly higher, but could only sway in the sky and fly northward with difficulty. Its altitude was getting lower and lower.

Its wings were obviously injured and it seemed that it couldn't fly far.

What about the griffin rider?

Gerred cursed and ran towards the direction where the griffin rider fell. The two of them crossed several alleys and came to that street.

Across the street, that dark green griffin was lying in the ruins. Its neck was crooked at a terrifying angle. Its intestines and internal organs had flowed out and were emitting steaming heat. The feathers on its body were still burning with a dim flame, emitting a stench.

This was not the fishy smell from the internal organs or blood of the griffin.

Gerred looked around beside the griffin and called out something in Dwarvish but got no response.

Jess noticed a house whose roof had been smashed through by something. Black smoke was rising from that hole. A young girl inside was obviously frightened and ran out crying.

"Over here... Gerred, over here!"

After rushing into the house, a smell of burning mixed with a strange and unpleasant odor hit their faces. The griffin rider was right there in the corner.

The rider's body was already burned black in a large area. And because of the heavy impact, his whole body was broken. Lying there in an unimaginable posture, he was like a doll damaged by a disobedient child.

He was wearing similar attire to Gerred and had a similar braid tied on top of his head. However, due to too much blood and burn marks, his original skin color and hair color could no longer be seen.

Looking at his appearance, Jess even had the illusion that he was Gerred.

Didn't the griffin rider know that the black dragon might counterattack with fire?

Jess remembered what Gerred had said - if the griffin thinks the sacrifice is worthwhile, it will never back down.

Did the griffin rider rather die than definitely stop that black dragon?

Hinterlands is in the northeast. If this black dragon plans to fly there, it might reach there in one or two days.

At this moment, Gerred also ran in. When he saw that dwarf, the expression on his face almost froze.

His hands were trembling non-stop. Jess could even hear his teeth constantly chattering because of anger.

"No... No way..."

He fell down beside the dwarf knight and wanted to touch his body but was stopped by Jess.

"Don't touch... That's the fire of the black dragon, Gerred!"

"Damn it!" Gerred cursed loudly and stood up again. He looked around but didn't find what he wanted. Then he rushed out of the house again. Finally, he found that thing behind the house.

A warhammer with dwarf runes on it. There was still a faint trace of electric light floating on it!

When Jess saw this warhammer being picked up by Gerred, it seemed to be reignited. Suddenly, a series of electric lights burst out and spread into the surrounding air.

"I'm going to kill this beast." Gerred stared at the hammer in his hand and roared like a madman, "I'm going to kill this beast! Now, immediately!"

This time Jess didn't want to persuade him. He couldn't say anything.

Southshore had become like this. When they left here in the morning, everything was so peaceful and calm. In an instant, everything was on fire.

Just because of that evil dragon that inexplicably appeared here.

"Wait for me here, Jess."

Gerred said and then turned and left.

"I'll go with you!"
