The three of them had formed an unlikely trio. Since Maxim confessed to Daniel and Lila that his memory and intelligence had improved, they had been quietly working together to uncover what exactly was happening to him. The changes in Maxim were undeniable, but the mystery behind them was proving more elusive than they had anticipated.
Maxim sat in his room, staring at his laptop screen, his fingers drumming nervously on the desk. They had been researching for days, scouring the internet, reading articles, forums, even delving into obscure fantasy blogs. But the more they searched, the stranger the situation seemed.
Daniel had suggested they look for stories about unexplained phenomena or supernatural occurrences, but nothing seemed to fit. There were plenty of references to magic, but all of them were wrapped up in folklore or fiction. Still, they had to start somewhere.
"Found anything yet?" Lila's voice came from the doorway. She leaned against the frame, looking both determined and frustrated. Despite everything, she had been relentlessly supportive, refusing to let Maxim deal with this alone.
Maxim shook his head. "Not really. A lot of fantasy stuff, sure, but nothing that feels real."
Lila walked over and sat on the edge of his bed, her eyes scanning the screen. "It doesn't help that this sounds like something out of a story. People don't just... develop powers."
Maxim let out a long breath. "I know. But there's got to be something we're missing."
At that moment, Daniel burst into the room, holding up a thick old book he had borrowed from the school library. "Guys, I think I found something!" he said, excitement evident in his voice.
Maxim and Lila both looked up, intrigued.
Daniel plopped down on the floor, flipping through the pages. "Okay, hear me out. I was in the fantasy section, and I found this old book about myths and legends. There's a section here about wizards and sorcerers from ancient times. I know, it sounds ridiculous, but listen—it talks about how magic isn't just about spells. It's about concentration and controlling energy from within."
Maxim furrowed his brow. "Concentration? Like, mental focus?"
"Exactly!" Daniel said, nodding eagerly. "According to this, real magic, if it existed, would be all about connecting with some kind of inner power—drawing energy from the world around you and channeling it through focus and intent."
Lila raised an eyebrow. "So what does that mean for Maxim?"
Daniel shrugged, flipping through the book. "I'm not sure, but it kind of makes sense, right? All the stuff that's been happening—his improved memory, the incident in the city—what if he's tapping into some kind of energy without even knowing it? He just needs to learn how to control it."
Maxim frowned, leaning back in his chair. "So you're saying I might be... like a wizard or something?"
Daniel chuckled. "Hey, crazier things have happened in the world of magic."
Lila sat up straighter, her eyes thoughtful. "If concentration is the key, then maybe you need to train your mind. What about meditation?"
Maxim blinked. "Meditation?"
Lila nodded. "Think about it. If it's about focus and concentration, then you need to be able to clear your mind, right? Control your thoughts. There's a class at the wellness center near school—they teach meditation. We could go check it out together."
Maxim considered it for a moment. The idea of meditating felt a bit strange, but then again, so was everything else that had been happening. "Yeah... maybe it's worth a shot."

A few days later, the three of them found themselves sitting cross-legged in a dimly lit room at the wellness center. The instructor at the front of the room spoke in a calming voice, guiding them through the process of clearing their minds and focusing on their breathing.
Maxim closed his eyes, trying to follow along, but his thoughts kept wandering. It was harder than it seemed—his mind was constantly racing, filled with questions and doubts. What if this was all in his head? What if they were wasting their time?
But as the minutes passed, something strange happened. A sense of calm began to settle over him, deeper than anything he had felt before. It was as if a weight had lifted from his mind, and for the first time in days, he felt truly present.
The instructor's voice faded into the background, and Maxim's awareness shifted inward. He could feel his heartbeat slowing, his breaths steadying, and then… something else. A faint, almost imperceptible current of energy, flowing through him, around him, in the air itself.
His mind reached out, and suddenly, he could feel it—the pulse of the world around him. It was everywhere, in the air, the floor beneath him, the trees outside. It was as if he had tapped into a hidden network of energy, something ancient and powerful, something he had always been connected to but never understood.
His eyes flew open, and for a brief moment, the room seemed to shimmer with an ethereal light. He looked around, but no one else seemed to notice. The other students were still deep in meditation, completely unaware of what had just happened.
Maxim swallowed, his heart pounding. This was it. This was the key.
When the session ended, Lila and Daniel approached him, both eager to hear how it had gone.
"How do you feel?" Lila asked, her eyes searching his face.
Maxim hesitated for a moment, then nodded slowly. "I think… I think I just felt something. Like energy. It's real. I'm sure of it now."
Daniel grinned. "Dude, that's awesome! What was it like?"
Maxim struggled to find the words. "It's hard to explain. It was like... tapping into something bigger than myself. Like the world itself was alive, and I could feel it."
Lila's face lit up with excitement. "So that means you're getting closer! If you can control that energy, who knows what you'll be able to do?"
Maxim nodded, though a part of him was still cautious. This power, whatever it was, was growing stronger. But so were the risks. He had no idea what he was truly capable of, and that uncertainty scared him more than he cared to admit.
But for now, they had a plan. He would train his mind, learn to focus, and tap into the power that was slowly awakening within him.
As they left the wellness center, Maxim couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, he was on the verge of something incredible.
