Shattered Calm

Casey walked into the kitchen and started cooking the chicken. Dagomarus decided that since she was capable of handling it without his interference, he would enjoy the sunset.

He strolled over to the window overlooking the backyard. Though small, it was charming—a flower garden in one corner and a couple of young trees strategically placed to provide shade as they grew. It was a peaceful scene, and he loved watching the countryside as the sun dipped below the horizon.

The sunset was his favorite time of day. With his enhanced vision, the colors were breathtaking—vivid reds and oranges rippled and gleamed with unparalleled intensity. The green leaves appeared almost white to him, a quirk of his heightened sensitivity to the red end of the spectrum. But he didn't mind; the beauty of the sunset captivated him.

Suddenly, a small flash on the top of a distant hill caught his eye.
