A lavender-colored portal appeared, and Altair walked out from the other side, returning to his laboratory, which looked the same as when he had left. The once monochromatic lab regained its colors the moment Altair touched down.
"Unbelievable, I spent over five months there without even realizing it. Time sure flies."
From this world's perspective, it was as though he had never left, but for Altair, it had been more than five months. Now, standing in his familiar lab, a wave of nostalgia washed over him.
Altair plopped down into the chair by his workstation and opened the pop-up interface.
[World Level has increased.]
[Current level: Level 3.]
[World Level event completed. World Level upgrade reward granted. Achievement reward type changed for Level 3.]
[Reward has been issued. Please check.]
Just like when he leveled up to Level 2, the system notified him of the rewards and their changes.
Now, he was curious about the newly granted reward. What kind of skill would it be this time?
[Savior of the World reward: BGM Warrior.]
[BGM Warrior:
A seasoned protagonist will have their own unique BGM. Whether you're blasting enemies with a speaker on your back, or striking a devastating final blow with your life hanging by a thread, you need your own soundtrack!
With this skill, you'll receive different buffs based on the BGM you play during battle.
Ah, so it's finally here - the legendary BGM.]
In anime, characters often have their theme songs when they make an entrance or perform some cool move. Some characters even have BGM that automatically starts during critical moments.
But since this was the real world, not an anime, there hadn't been any such thing as background music for key moments. Now, though, he finally had the power to summon his own BGM. How interesting.
Altair noticed something else in the skill description, a line of text below the explanation.
[This skill requires you to manually add your own BGM.]
Wait, so he had to add the BGM himself? What kind of manual addition was this?
He clicked on it again, and only then did he fully understand. The so-called manual addition meant he had to create the BGM himself... compose the music, play the instruments, maybe even sing, and then record it to upload.
"So, to be a BGM Warrior, I first need to become a musician?"
'You're killing me here!'
As a former nerd, Altair could listen to music just fine, but asking him to compose it? That was a stretch.
Fortunately, Altair had the Wolf Wisdom. With that, what kind of music couldn't he create? Grey Wolf was a genius!
After going over the details in his mind, thanks to Grey Wolf's brilliance, Altair understood the process of music production.
"Alright, I know how to make music now. But before I can do that, I need to build some instruments and recording equipment, don't I?"
Altair sighed. This skill, he didn't even know how much of a boost it would provide yet, but the prerequisites were troublesome.
"Never mind, I'll get it done."
Time wasn't an issue. For now, however, he had more important things to do... like finding his wives!
After five months, if he missed his lab this much, it was only natural that he missed his wives even more!
Altair ran out of the lab and headed for the living room, where Hestia and Saeko were sitting on the sofa chatting. In this world with limited entertainment options, the two didn't go out much, so they spent most of their time together, talking and snacking.
As soon as Altair appeared, Hestia was the first to react.
"Altair-kun, you're out!"
"Yes, Hestia, I'm out!"
Altair dashed over and plopped down between Hestia and Saeko, wrapping an arm around each of them. Both women were a bit surprised. Altair was always affectionate, hugging Saeko in the kitchen and snuggling with Hestia anywhere, but this time something felt different.
"Altair-kun, you seem... different today."
Hestia, ever the innocent one, asked in confusion.
"Different? How so?"
Altair pretended to be puzzled, looking at her curiously.
Hestia, already confused, grew even more unsure when he questioned her.
"Um... I can't quite put my finger on it. When you first came out, something felt off, but now everything feels normal again. It's strange."
"It's nothing strange. I just came out of the lab, and maybe the reason you feel something odd is because I love you so much, Hestia. As soon as I came out, I couldn't resist hugging you."
Altair then turned to Saeko.
"And of course, Saeko, I love you too."
Altair's shameless declaration didn't anger the two women. Hestia giggled and snuggled closer to Altair's chest.
"Altair-kun, you say the most embarrassing things first thing in the morning."
Though she spoke as if annoyed, Hestia's head nestled deeper into his embrace, while Altair gently brushed his chin against her head.
Saeko, watching the affectionate scene, felt no jealousy... only a warm smile on her face.
Altair's words reminded Saeko of the time he came to her world. She suspected, based on what he had mentioned earlier that morning, that he had just been to another world. So, when he immediately came to embrace her and Hestia upon his return, it was because, for him, it had been a long time apart.
For her, Altair had never been gone for even a moment. But for him, they had been separated for quite a while.
Understanding this, Saeko rested her head on Altair's shoulder, savoring his embrace and the warmth of their reunion.
With Saeko on his left and Hestia on his right, Altair sat there for a long while, enjoying the peaceful moment with his two wives. Finally, he spoke softly.
"Saeko, by the way, how are you with musical instruments?"
"Musical instruments? Because of my father, I learned to play the
"Shamisen and shakuhachi, huh."
"Why do you ask about instruments, Altair?"
Hestia, still resting her head against him, inquired curiously.
Altair smiled.
"I'm in the mood for some pop music."
