A Midnight Escape Plan

Fiona's POV

The stale air in the hotel room felt suffocating. Every creak, every distant footstep sent a shiver racing down my spine. My fingers tightened around the curtain as I peered out into the dimly lit parking lot below. The black SUV hadn't moved. It sat there like a predator waiting for the right moment to strike.

"They're watching us," I whispered.

Xavier stood by the table, arms crossed, staring at the untouched tray of food. The scent of roasted chicken and vegetables should have been comforting, but after the ominous knock and the hotel staff's eerie behavior, it felt like a trap.

"Of course, they are." His voice was sharp, edged with frustration.

I let the curtain fall back into place and turned to face him. "So, what do we do?"
