what if Hiatus #2

I searched the obituary for someone who was deceased so no one would sue me for plagiarism. I found a picture of a seven year old. I did some research and found a few short videos. I took a few minutes and transformed into her. I was adopted by an elderly couple. We moved to a neighborhood that hosted a plethora of people. Some military and some civilians. I assumed that my stay was going to be pleasant till a young girl went missing. Military police came since her dad was a soldier. They were canvassing the area in the hopes to find her. I was coming home from a sleepover. One of the men saw me and stared at me weirdly before he walked back inside. I took no heed as I went inside to get cleaned up and start finishing my homework.

Mom said that I wasn't allowed to leave the house without permission or without an adult. I happily concurred as I held on to Cuppy. A cute baby golden retriever. I scratched behind his ears as I sat to watch TV. About three minutes in the doorbell rang and I ran to answer it. A young but nervous man was there with another stern faced man. The younger one was surprised a child answered the door while the other one calmed himself down to ask me if he could talk to my mom. I called her and she asked me to go back to the TV as she will handle the situation. Cuppy let out a few barks so I asked if I could take her out for a walk since she probably wanted to do her business. Dad happily took Cuppy as I was told to go upstairs. I obediently obliged since I was not looking for trouble. The younger one stared at me with an adorable expression as I disappeared from sight.

When the coast was clear I snuck out to stretch my legs. Soon I bumped into a greyhound. The dog gave me a few licks and then it walked off as the stern one man told me to go home. I took a few steps when he called someone by the name of probie. The man was told to escort me home safely. He was a lean built man. I would say he recently left the army. There was a deep sadness in his eyes. That was until he saw me. He froze and asked the nearest person who he was supposed to escort. The stern one tapped my shoulder and told him to make sure I was safe and sound. Once he was certain I was real his demeanor changed to something resembling hope.

He picked me up like I was his own baby girl and started walking. I extended my senses and told the man handling the dog to go east since I had once gone camping with the missing girl. She probably went to a place she calls a safe haven. The stern one wanted specific so I pulled out a picture of the place. I also told him how to get to the destination safely. He gave me a kind smile as he thanked me profusely. He told the others to head in the direction I had given. The man who was carrying me was staring at me weirdly. Like I would disappear if he even blinks. I gently tapped him and he started to walk. His steps had purpose and it was regimented. When I got home he stayed outside till the others arrived. He looked through the window just one last time. I decided to play nice and wave. He gave me a polite smile before he walked away with his buddies.

The next day the stern man was waiting outside my school. He asked me to come with him. I replied, "Mommy said never get in cars with strangers" Mommy gave me a polite smile as she sat in the back as well. I was taken to the military police headquarters. I got terrified as the building got closer to me. I was shaking with fear. Mommy took my hand and promised me that I have nothing to worry about. A man in a lab coat was waiting for me. He politely asked if he could take a sample from me. I shook my head in terror and the man who carried me home stepped forward. I grabbed mommy's hand and begged her to take me home. The man said he is only going to take a sample of my saliva and test my DNA. I asked him why he wanted to do that. He said I could be a twin. I stared at him like he had gone nuts. I asked him if he added anything funny to his breakfast for the past hundred years. The men nearby burst out laughing.

I finally asked to talk to the man alone. The adults consented I gave him my saliva but I also hypnotized him to make sure he destroyed the sample. He can make the twin story if it makes him happy. The guy walked off to his lab asking to be left alone since this was delicate work. The stern man was smoking cigarette after cigarette. The man who carried me home was sitting down with his head on his knees. There was a young woman next to him. She was stroking his back repeatedly. The others were talking nervously and my new mommy was praying for an answer. I pulled out a sketchbook and started to draw. I drew the one place I wished I was in right now. I drew Valentina. Some time after I heard nervous footfalls. The lab coat came back and announced that I was his lost daughter. The room burst with congratulations. I walked out to mommy and asked her if we could go home now. Cuppy is missing me and she is probably going to cry. The woman didn't say anything so I reminded her that she has legally adopted me so I will go with her. She took my hand and walked out the door. I looked back at the men and waved goodbye.

I got home and got myself cleaned up for dinner. When I came downstairs my new parents seemed more calm as they were chatting with the stern one. He must have sensed me as he turned to give me a polite smile. He introduced me to my 'real father'. Richard Brixton. I politely said hello. He tried to say something but it felt like his vocal cords were somehow bunched up. I took his hand and he stared at me for a moment before he grabbed me. He held me tightly and he kissed my hair. Cuppy came running and I asked permission to feed him. He finally let me go. I took Cuppy and went to the kitchen. I placed a small stool and got up on it. I opened a drawer and pulled out a treat. I found my safety scissors and cut it open. I poured the stuff in a dog bowl but Cuppy wouldn't eat it. So I picked up a treat and held it up. Cuppy ate it off my fingers and licked me. His licking was ticklish so I giggled.

I looked up to see five adults admiring me. I blushed as I put the bowl down. Cuppy ate her food as I stroked her back. I came up with a compromise. Mommy listened as I said I will them till they are no longer amongst the living then I will move in with my father. He can have visitation. We can go places but I stay with mommy till the end. The adults seemed to like the compromise. My newly discovered father was invited to stay for dinner. He was nervous but tried to keep it to himself. Mommy went to the store to get a few things but I was hungry so I made Ramen. I poured stock into a pot. Then add the noodles before turning on the stove. I opened the fridge and pulled out a few veggies and some mushrooms. I washed them and added them to the pot and stirred them well. When the noodles were cooked right I used a ladle and poured it into a bowl.

I carefully took the bowl to the living room and turned on the TV. I found the cartoons to be so boring that I switched to the national geographic channel. I happily ate my ramen as I watched a series called built for the kill. The video first showed the animal getting attacked but after the video rewinds and replays the animal escapes. I blurted out, "That's how nature works. You don't hit the rewind button to escape. If that were true that wouldn't be dead people." I got agitated so I changed to the cooking channel. They were showing me how to cook bugs. I made gagging noises as I turned off the TV. I poured the contents of the entire bowl down my throat in one sip and sat by the coffee table. I saw my stuff brought from the military base. I pulled out the sketchbook and drew the main house and winding path I had made. I drew a swing and also the bird feeder that my neighbor destroyed when she tried to do target practice unannounced in the middle of the road. I used a lighter shade of a pencil to draw the outline. I picked up the box of color pencils and started to fill between the lines. When I was done I tried to make it as realistic as possible.

The next sketch was a picture of the beach. I used the color pencils to draw the place from memory with my friends before I went to Ravencroft academy. When I looked up to see a surprised adult. Their expressions turned to delight. One of the adults picked up my drawings and said he thinks it belongs in an art gallery. The others complimented my drawing as I just went back to drawing till mommy came out to tell me dinner was ready. I put the pencil down and ran to wash my hands. The food was ok. Everyone was quiet and at one point I heard the food in my stomach digest. After dinner I asked if I could go for a walk. Both my new parents were adamant that the streets are not safe for child. The thirst was coming and I didn't want to hurt anyone. I excused myself to use the bathroom and ran out the window to get a blood bag. I found one in a clinic not far from the house. I made sure to be super fast so no one could see me. I did my business and ran back home.

I sat in the bathroom and went through the memories of the donor. When I was done I walked to see some concerned grown ups. I told them that I was taking a moment to take in the news. The stern one said that there is no need to rush. I have the rest of my life. Yes I do. I need to do a background check of the person I am impersonating. Of all the people this kid had a military dad. My worst nightmare. If I disappear he will go berserk. Note to self please let the professionals handle my fake ID from now on. I don't need anymore drama. As I walked back to the living room I tried to figure out how to live the next fifty years of my life.
