Chapter 6: AMMON IS BACK!

Chapter 6.

A few weeks ago…

"Watch where you're going!" The man stated sharply as if she were the cause of the accident.

AND. HE. DID. NOT. APOLOGIZE.

"You obviously bumped into me," she assessed the damage done to her shirt and winced in pain as she still felt the after effects of the hot coffee.

When the man did not reply, she looked up and their eyes met.

Was the six months already over? She stared at Ammon Delcano whose face tightened when he realized it was her.

She quietly walked past him, not before she heard him mutter spineless under his breath.

"Hey, sorry about your shirt. You should learn how to stand up for yourself, you know," Alyssa, a tall brunette, rounded her in the restroom. "What he did was totally wrong and unacceptable," Alyssa stated firmly.

She quietly chuckled. "It's okay. There's really nothing to fuss about. It's just coffee," she took time in unbuttoning her shirt.

"Marie, seriously?" Alyssa rested her weight on one leg with her arms folded across her chest. "No! It's really not okay! I will have him apologize to you at lunch. No one messes with my best friend, not even my man!"

Marie sighed. Her head had begun to pound, the headache was coming with full force this time. She softly rubbed her temples as she processed Alyssa's words.

Ammon? Apologize? Heh…those two never went together.

"Lyssa, I just need a T-shirt," Marie said tiredly. She had successfully taken off the stained shirt and proceeded to splash cold water on the burn. "I know you have spare shirts. Please lend me one for the day. I'll have it laundered and delivered to you tomorrow," her voice was small.

"No problem, I'll text my assistant to bring it down here," Alyssa replied and quickly whipped out her phone to send the text, excusing herself and walking out of the bathroom.

Marie watched the woman go, taking note of the outfit Alyssa wore today. Alyssa never repeated clothes, she was that wealthy.

Marie suddenly felt guilty. Alyssa regarded her as a best friend, but she never disclosed her relationship with Ammon to Alyssa. She sighed again and went back to applying a soothing ointment on the scalded skin.

A minute later, Alyssa walked in, coffee and cakes in hand. Shortly after she walked in, her assistant followed, shirt in hand.

"Thank you so much! You're a lifesaver!" Marie said as she struggled to put the shirt on.

She was slightly bustier than Alyssa, which made the shirt pop out in the bust area.

"No problem, this is for you," Alyssa handed the coffee and cakes over to Marie while eyeing the shirt on Marie's body.

How could Bellony bring this shirt? She saved this one for a special occasion, and Marie was doing the honors of wearing it first.

"Thanks again," Marie muttered as she stared at herself in the mirror. She looked sharp.

"So, six months is already up," Marie said in disbelief while Alyssa's assistant chuckled.

"I'm as surprised myself," Bellony said as they all filed out of the restroom, Marie's soiled T-shirt in hand.

No one in the pantry looked at them in surprise because it was very normal to have coffee spilled. It literally happened every day.

Alyssa was quiet as they walked towards the elevator. Marie, who noticed first, asked in a worried tone, "Lyssa, is everything okay?"

Alyssa just gave a sad smile and nodded as they entered inside the elevator.

"You should actually be the happiest person here because your boyfriend is back. Both of you will be spending a lot of time together now," Bellony added.

Marie could not continue the discussion as the elevator just stopped on her floor. "I'll see you guys at lunch," she said as she quickly rushed out.

She had just spotted her supervisor glaring daggers at the just opened elevator.

"Good morning, sir," she politely greeted as she scurried towards her workspace, not waiting for his reply.

But she heard it anyway, a pleased grunt at being called sir.

"Six months is over. Ammon Delcano is back," her supervisor, David Brune, suddenly spoke up, catching everyone's attention.

David continued: "A lot of things are going to change around here with his presence. You get fired if you slack! So, you know the drill. Now, get back to work!" His voice boomed and he watched with pleasure as they all hurried to their different workspaces, chattering in the process.

It felt really good to be a supervisor.

As Marie settled down in front of her computer, she took a minute to consume the coffee and cake before she set back to work. The coffee did not really help as she was still feeling sleepy.

She almost had no taste of sleep the previous night because she had been taking care of her sick elder sister and teenage children. Marie knew she needed a nurse to manage Hazel, her sister, but she had been really busy with work.

Barely ten minutes into working, there was a commotion in the big office. People who were lounging around and gossiping shuffled towards the seats and pretended to be working.

Marie felt the sudden change in atmosphere before she even saw him. Her mind went back to their earlier encounter.

David, the supervisor, was quick on his feet as he rushed to welcome Ammon Delcano.

"Welcome, sir. It's a pleasure to have you back, sir,"

Ammon just nodded and walked briskly around the office, stopping at each desk and accessing what they were doing.

There were roughly twenty staff in the office, and each was nervous as Ammon graced their workspace. Anyone could get fired at this point.

When Ammon reached Marie's workspace, they held each other's eyes for a while before Ammon broke the eye contact and studied the worksheets on her computer screen.

There was a tension between them, and Marie could swear her heart skipped a beat when their eyes met.

"Keep working, and be careful with the numbers," Ammon's voice rumbled out, velvet smooth and thick.

He briskly walked past her to another workspace, pointing out a mistake the person had made.

There was a collective breath of relief from Marie's colleagues once Ammon was out of sight.

"That was intense," Paisley, who sat beside Marie, swiveled her chair to face Marie.

Marie just smiled and shook her head. These people really did not understand the kind of person Ammon was.

Suddenly, as the room was relaxing, Ammon

walked into the office again, looking mad about something.

Then, his eyes met Marie's, "Out here, now!"
