Duty and desire

As I walked down the hallway toward Captain Gerard's office, I couldn't help but smile to myself. Mira's confession still played in my mind, and I was eager to tease Gerard about it.

He was always so serious, and I figured he could use a little fun. After everything that had happened with Nicholas and Elara, a lighthearted moment would be a welcome change.

When I reached his door, I knocked lightly. His deep voice called out, "Come in," and I pushed the door open. Gerard was sitting at his desk, looking over some reports. He glanced up as I entered and stood, bowing slightly.

"Princess Isabella," he said, his tone formal as always. "Is there something you need?"

I waved a hand, brushing off his formality. "Relax, Gerard. I'm not here on official business."

He sat back down, his brow furrowing slightly. "Then what brings you here?"
